Betcha can't play this(A Harmonic Minor run)

by case211 (Sep 02, 2011)

Alright, this one is a cool lick that I've been practicing for a while. I made it up a couple nights ago just messing around and have finally fine tuned it for sharing. I think it's a pretty cool lick that will challenge you a little bit at first. I will upload an MP3 if I get a chance to do so.
This lick is in A Harmonic Minor, and would be well suited over a progression based in an A minor scale(Think Dorian, Phrygian, Harmonic minor, etc.), but use your imagination and explore different progressions to play this over.
I've tabbed it out in three parts, due to how long the second part is on this page. Learn these parts slowly and make sure you know exactly what your fingers are going to do at each one before moving on to the next section.

Part I
Although it may seem daunting, the shift between the two sweeps shown here is rather easy if you use your index finger to fret the 17th fret on the high e, as it makes the transition easier and smoother.

e-------17h120p17----------16-19~
B-----17---------16------16-----
G---16-------------17--17-------
D-18-----------------19---------
A-------------------------------
E-------------------------------

Part II
This part is played in a triplet feel, so keep that in mind when learning the run.

B---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part III
For the beginning of the third part, I use my ring finger to fret both the high e and B at the 12th fret, and then pull off to my index finger fretting the 10th frets of the high e and B. I slide down to the 8th fret position to keep the flow going into the final run of this lick.
