a person that will censor others, for any reason - whether it be they disagree with them, they believe their words to be inappropriate, whether it offends, regardless - a person that will censor another person has inside of them a sort of disgusting arrogance, or a petulant, childish weakness. if it is the former, it is because they feel themselves superior so that they believe they have the right to tell another man what to say. if it is the latter, it is because they are emotionally fragile, and instead of maturely handling it, by ignoring it, they lash out like a empowered child, and close someone elses mouth because they can't handle whatever it is they said.

there is at no level of authority the right to censor someones words; the government does not have that right, the internet providers do not have that right, the schools and churches and parents and webmasters and moderators and business owners and police officers and politicians do not have that right.

Just a thought (if I may). This site is not a democracy. it is the work and property of the creator (the admin). It's his site and it's his call. we have no "rights" here. we are guests.
Am i for free speech? yes
Am i for a little common courtesy? yes please
"I have decided ". oh really? that's nice skippy.

the admin dos a gr8 job, only thing tht would be nice is power over ur own thread, at least to delete comments, doesnt mean the admin cant delete stuff too, just kinda gives more control to stay on topic.

phip, it does not matter if it's his site; he does not have the authority to tell you what to say and not to say. he has the power to do so; but not the authority. a self evident super-natural human right is inviolable, period. if i was in his house, he STILL would not have the right to tell me what to say... he'd have the right to tell me to leave or force me off his property, but if you think he has the authority to tell me what to say, does that mean he has the authority to deny my right to live? they are both just as inviolable as the other, whats the difference?

the idea that 'appropriateness' and 'courtesy' and 'political correctness' have any place in determining what one may say is a heinous LIE, perpetrated by people that would WELCOME a tyranny, a rule of law where one may only say what the powerful deem to be safe, where one may only say what the idiot mobs of humanity will not take offense too. where you have the right to say what others accept... what is the use of such a right?

@baud,
Yeah, i understand your point completly. My point in case i mistated it is that the admin has the right to delete anything he wants on this site because it is indeed HIS site. In other words, if I come into your house and offend you, you have the right to throw me out. that is all i am saying. In no way am i willing to acquiesce authority to anyone when it comes to any of my personal freedoms, much more so i believe, than many of my countrymen of late.
Having said that, I have no problem personally with "toning" down my language at times when i am in the presence of certain people whom i feel may be offended by my language. It's a personal choice that i exercise in order to show respect in some cases. I have no "authority" to "tell" others how to conduct themselves but at times I do have the strong urge to "suggest" a kinder "tone" or use of language out of respect for other members. I don't count courtesy as one of my weaknesses but rather a strength born out of maturity.

it's not a big deal anyways, but i believe that he has the right to delete things like spam. it's not speech, it's just a form of flooding to piss people off. but to delete someones words because he disagrees with them, i believe that is overstepping his bounds.

That's what pissed me off, he deleted my song I wrote. I know it was dumb but it was joke to lighten up someone's day [someone thats not Miley Cyrus, Corey Taylor, or the Jonas Brothers lol] and he went and deleted the whole post. No spam at all.

deleting someones words because you disagree with them would be at best unwise. the free flow of ideas is important. for me this poll (i think) is about the use of excessive profanity, and by that i mean profanity that goes far beyond expressing a point of view. Profanity for the sake of profanity. I read a post (i think it was yesterday) and i thouht George Carlin was back from the dead. Attention getting profanity. it was foolishness. Hell, (oops) i didn't have any problem with your rather colorful description of the new pedal you recently aquired because i can relate to the elation you described.
Look, when i joined this forum last year it was a great place to exchange ideas and knowledge, and yes there was a certain amount of goofing around and plenty of swearing, but not like it has been of late. Some of the elder regulars have stopped joining in but I think that decision was ill advised. I'm sticking around because i want to learn and one day contribute something of what i have learned to others. The rudeness and "shock jocks" may come and some may go but in the end this forum was established to benefit those who want to share their love of music and the guitar and they are the ones that will prevail. Geez you don't get enough crap in the outside world you gotta come in here and spred your disease? cover your freaking mouth when you cough! (not directed at any specific individual...yet)

HELL YEAH!!!!! lol. Sorry Phip, couldn't resist dude.
And the profanity thing was mostly directed at me right? Yeah I know. Sorry If it offended you, although none of it was HARSHLY directed at anyone on this forum, it my post that got deleted was just joking around about some bands that are a bit overrated in my opinion. I respect YOU though, some not so much, and those of which do not need mentioning.

@ Ozzfan486,
Yeah, the profanity thing was directed at you, that's true, but much of the bulk of what i am going on about has been going on LONG before you arrived. So, don't assume i am getting on you case, just chill and enjoy the ride! It' about the music, why else would someone join this forum?
You know I don't want to sound like some old dude (yes is do) but BACK IN MY DAY music and musicians (most of them) were all about peace and love and ** like that. You younger guys, you're all about killing yourselfs and all kinds of negative stuff. you're generation must really be pissed off is all i can say! Is that going to be the motto of your generation? We're pissed so we're gonna kill ourselves, that'll show ya! You guys need to get a cause, ya know like global warming or something, write some songs, then peace out, make love and join a commune or something. worked for us!

Yes the Admin has the right to delete peoples posts. Thats their Job! And it wasnt because he didnt disagree with it, it was probly because it was another stupid pointless post.... you know the kind of post that is killing this site.
Get ready for some censoring here:
baudelaire you are just douche bag. You are the type of person who likes to argue just to argue. This isnt about freedom of speach or a person who has too much power that went to their head. Its about keeping this site clean of very offense and useless material.

Oh god, believe me, I'm not gonna kill myself to teach someone a lesson, thats all the "Emo" bull**** thats going around, its just a scene thing, and all the things that get blamed on music are just stupid, EX. - Kid kills students at colloege, he owned an Ozzy cd so Ozzy will be accused, its stupid how fast the media just jumps to conclusions.
And sorry, but we can't really do what you guys did because then it was right and for a good cause but now its just because "Oh look at my new bell-bottoms peace" and then they get labeled "That dumb hippie faggot". Where you guys actually protested and made a signifigant difference in the world.
I can't speak for anyone else but I guess if I had to I'd be somewhat like Dave Mustaine, not all peace loving and the "Scene" guy but anti-government. And believe me, I watch the news and read the papers and everything has gone to **** with Bush these past eight years and as far as I can see its only going to get worse. You might as well just vote for the VP this fall because heres my guees of what will go down.
Obama - Assasinated by a KKK member.
McCain - Will probably die in office.
Its sad but to some extent it makes sense.

My music though is probably going to just be about life and what I think is going on with me, or a story of some sort that would make a nice storyline of a song.

sorry for the mini-auto-biographie,
Jake [aka Ozzfan]

Yeah, the owner can do whatever they want with this site and that's the way it should be. Man, when I was growing up in the 70's we could give two shi*s about politics. We were too busy smoking weed and listening to music and doing nothing.

Ah, that's not true my young friend! you DO have a cause. The planet is melting and the whole world is going down the environmental flusher! Is anyone today writing music about this? I'm a bit out of touch i'll admit but global warming; that's your vietnam war right there! there's a lot of room for some great music to be made about this. Yes/No?

Who's killing your mother (mother earth) who gave you life blah blah blah etc.

WTF guys,

Look the admin has taken his time to develop this site and the community has rallied to him but it's still his site, it's his blood and sweat in the code it's his site.

There is no charge to come and participate or use to tools, yet Im sure admin has taken his own time to create it with out being paid not to mention the server cost.

I work for a large hosting company and we charge right around $500 a month for a dedicated server, I know you can get them cheaper, but still someone is paying for that cost and I know it's not me!

I would say if you think you can do better? Bye bye, but I'll be right here.

so with your logic, it would be ok for me to come to your house where you pay rent and keep your stuff, and i could say what ever i want you and you have no rights to stop me.

Look you spoiled little brats, need to learn some respect for the work of others, especially with it's done is someone free time, and with our charge.

If this is the type of BS that is going to come from this site then maybe I'll leave.

maybe you should. and yeah, if someone comes to your apartment where you pay rent they have the right to say whatever you want. you have the authority to kick them out, but not silence them.

you need to learn some respect for what you take for granted. no violation of human rights should be allowed. deleting posts because it's just spam is one thing, that's not speech, just words used as annoyances. deleting someones words because you do not like what they said is disgusting; and it doesn't matter if he sacrificed his daughter and used her blood to cool his CPU while programmed the site until his fingers bled and he had carpal tunnel tomb torker syndrome; nothing can give him the moral authority to censor based on his opinions of what is and is not appropriate. nothing. that moral authority simply does not exist; unless you literally sell your life as a slave, like in the military, that right can not be abridged.
