It's tricky, but it's possible to play.

I know you weren't exactly asking why it's the chord it is, but a little more complicated explanation about the chord.

Since D# is the minor third of C, you can figure out both what chord it is, and if it's minor or major. Although you can count more G's in that chord if you hold down the thumb on the third fret E, most G chords don't have C in them, and the fact that the chord contains the minor third of C, you can figure out that it's C minor.

e-3 = G
B-1 = C
G-0 = G
D-1 = D#
A-3 = C
E-3T = G (optional)

haha. With a little bit of practice the chord will sound fluid. It is a tough stretch. Use these fingerings, The other two are simpler versions, each leaving out the other's G.

-X-----0---- -X-----0---X-
| | 1 | 2 | Or 2 -{ | | 1 | 2 | }- Or 1
| | | | | | | | | | | |
| 3 | | | 4 | 4 | | | | }- Or 3
| | | | | | | | | | | |

-X---X-0-----
| | | | 1 | }- Or 2
| | | | | |
Or 2 -{ | 3 | | | 4 }- Or 3
| | | | | |

The last one requires you to mute the 5th string, the D string. You can sue either the fretting finger to lightly press and mute, or the finger not fretting.
Enjoy.
