Ok, so I've finally decided to get a new acoustic guitar, but I'm not sure on what to get. I know the better brands are Martin and Taylor, but they are out of my price range. I've got $150-300 to spend.

Any suggestions?

I played a Takimine (I think the spelling is right) at the guitar shop the other day and I really liked it for 300 dollars. Not sure what model it was.

At that range, go for used. Look at Takamine and Epiphone. Probably the better brands that come in under $250

I looked at the Takamine GS430S NEX on the internet, and it seems to get good reviews. I'll have to check that out.

Now that I think about it I believe the Takamine I looked at was $400.

I have a Yamaha APX 5A that I bought last year for 200 (new), I think that's about $400 at the current exchange rate. I didn't use it much 'till recently when I started 'dabbling' a little with classical guitar.
I must say, I'm very impressed with it.It has a very smooth and low action for an acoustic and I'm starting to get really attached to it. I'd say definitely one to look at!
Oh, it's an electric acoustic as well!

I know a guy that has a Martin, it's 25 years old and has a hole in it were the pickguard is from strumming and the pick hitting the body. It looks like junk but it is the best sounding guitar I have ever seen. He gave $1500 for it about six months ago.

I went to the store and tried out a Fender that was about $279, which I liked. They had an Epiphone for $130, but I didn't like it too much. There was also an Alvarez for 200, which was also nice.

They didn't have a very big selection, but I'm going to Guitar Center in a week or two to pick one out.

my brother got $1100 Alverz (guitar center price) for under $600. he's going to bring it over tomorrow night. he bought his first guitar from a local chain store around here (Iowa). then they did this invitation only sale, (I was not invited i buy used). seems like a really good deal for new, even if it was used still a good deal.

this will be his 2nd alverez and he really likes them. his old one had a skinny neck compared to my sigma martin copy.

Martins are the best, but very pricey.
