Hello,
As you know, I am really into music and I really wanna start a band.
In Nicolee's thread that has 70 posts, I mentioned that my music scene SUCKS. I am from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I really want to get into the music business and be in a cool band, my question is: How can a 12 year old that is really serious about this, get into the music biz ?

Please, be serious don't flame me and say like "you're 12 you're too young to be in music" because I know that's bull. I am very serious about this. I want to have a band and even get a paying gig every now and then somehow somewhere.

Can you guys all please help me ?
I really appreciate it, thank you.
I'll be back later...

Ok... let's start with your age anyway. I don't think you're to young, as long as you're dedicated. As long as you can play, and can practice to get better then it's fine. That said though, it'll be easier when you're 3 or 4 years older to get into a band. Still, if you've got the experience when you are that much older then you're going to be even better when it really gets serious.

You need to find people who play an instrument, ideally. Otherwise you're going to have to convince someone or find someone willing to learn an instrument. This will be a good time to do that at your age (assuming people you will be asking will be around about your age) because then when you're 15/16 they're going to be a decent player.

Start writing as soon as possible. As you write you'll get better and hopefully (unless you're a natural) you'll be up to a good standard when people do expect people to be in a band.

Make sure you can compromise. Don't try to be too controlling of the music when you're in a band but don't be to passive or else you might end up not being into it as much. Just give your input equally to everyone else if you can. There does still need to be some sort of leader (I feel), but only as someone who organises practice and band activities and the overall big picture of the music.

Everything I'm saying is pretty much in the way of giving yourself a headstart for when people will take you seriously (later in your teens). I know it sucks that a lot of people wouldn't now but that's how it is a lot of the time. Do everything you can, and if it works whilst your still in your early teens then cool... if not, at least give yourself a head start with all the experiance.

It's a bit jumbled but my minds not focused at the moment, hope I helped.

Thank you so much, seriously it did help.
I will START now, but maybe I will wait to actually become a band when I am 15/16 plus then i can drive (like to gigs)
My friend is learned guitar now and I am giving him a guitar as a (belated) christmas present. I just hope he is good to be a rhythm guitarist.

Okay,
What about FINDING the people ? Where do i go and how do I find them ? I don't want good people that are cocky bastards and don't get along with anyone. I want mainly friends (or someone I can befriend)

I do write my own stuff and me and Notim are like exchanging rhythms and leads to practice on, i did a cool lead for one of his rhythms and hes working on one for mine now. Do you want to hear some of my stuff ? it isnt the best, mind you, and its only done by webcam

Oh and if you do, you will need to PM me your email so i can email you some stuff. don't worry it's clean ! my computer , as sucky as it is, is clean and bug free. and i don't do anything funny with peoples i promise.. i dont even know how lol

Yeah, nice move on giving your mate a guitar. Make sure he practices so he can get good. As for finding people... just anywhere. School or whatever. Put notices up, and ads in the paper or whatever.

And sure, I'll PM my e-mail.

And I really appreciate everybody's help they've been giving with the various topics, thank you. Haha as confusing as it is I can understand it somehow.
I hate my damn mic though, thats why everything I make sounds like poop, I am gonna save up for an instrument mic and like GSlinger said, a audio interface, i'll be getting that too whenever he gets back to me.
Notim, thanks for the Kudos with the lead, I will try to make the quality better with a diff mic sometime.
Doz, the songs I sent you suck cause most of my work is in the editing / still working on stage. But you can get a general idea of my sound, and believe me my amp sounds amazing in real life it's just that the mic turns it into crap.
The changes can be heard better when you record at a lower volume, but with a crap mic, well I guess you have to settle. I will have a good sound by the end of summer though.. such a long way off...

I'm gonna go shred now actually, so, sorry for the book but I haven't talked to you two in a while, peace !
