i was just wondering if any of you guys and/or gals knew where the rock n roll scene is at these days. for example if you wanted to start a band in the 80's the sunset strip would be the ultimate place to visit. I'm just curious as to where the scene in the States is at nowadays.

The closest thing to a rock n roll scene in San Diego is my garage and maybe guitar center. people arent interested in any form of Rock. The tube and airwaves are bombarded with other crap.

I really hate it how all the amazing 80's bands are like gone. there is no more 80's sound anymore. It's all.. C + Rap.. That, or emo punk music (some is okay, not a huge fan of it) But I wish I was alive back in like the 70's so I could see all those great bands :(

yeah shit its quite sad. everyone at my school either wants to be in a hardcore grindcore band or an emo pop punk band. its so hard to find ppl my age in my area that want to start a blues/hard rock band. WHAT THE HELL is happening to rock n roll...?!!!

Rock & Roll is about freedom and free spirits! If the moguls can't have total control over everything, it just doesn't get seen or heard.

" I wrote on yellow paper from a man who said he was the king. he said 'my boy we'll have some crazy scenes.' There weren't any scenes like he was talking about. Man, he must have been the king of queens"
Deep Purple---"No one came"

Succinctly put Mr. Gillan

I agree with you Tilikidis, but no one at my school that I know of is actually talented. no one plays any instrument (only school band crap instruments) and i wanna start a band thats like EVERYTHING, metal, punk, blues, rock, just anything cause I like way too many genres just to play one ina band. it sucks that old school music is dying now we have all bull stuff tht the kids like, rap and pop.

I think you guys are looking at it all wrong. The big music scene today is no longer in the physical realm. I'd say the internet is the Sunset Strip of today.

Yeah cause everyone is illegally downloading stuff (via Limewire, etc.)

But you know what ?
People illegally downloading is a GOOD thing.
Why/how ?
because if they didn't, bands wouldn't be discovered so easy, and the bands would be out a few bucks.
When you download off LW, you can become a fan, and then purchase the bands merchandise, or, introduce some friends into them and the friend can buy stuff too.
See ?

Yeah, the internet is the music scene really... and although it may be easier to be discovered from all over and to market yourself... it still takes away from the glamour, excitement, fun and feeling of revolution that bursts in the music scene have had in the past.

Don't you ever find yourself wishing you lived in the [insert decade]ies?

I would have LOVED to be born in the 80's man like, 1980, because a;; the amazing bands, i could've seen them.
but hey, as long as you keep touring playing concerts and selling records and merchandise (other than records) than you will make money.

I agree with doz, it would be exciting for a music scene to exist physically. Especially like Haight and Ashbury in the 60's, where music became a community, a family. But I'm optimistic, maybe the internet will be great for the quality of music. The more illegal downloading, the less money for artists, and the less money for artists the more dedicated to MUSIC bands will be to be in the industry. Less bands like Hinder and Nickelback who seem to engineer their songs specifically to meet the tastes of popular culture, and make a couple mill.

rock scene aint so bad in mexico, if you last with a band more than 2 years in most cities, youve finished the hard part... there in the last years a lot of bands, punk mainly have become famous and lot of young listeners are starting to prefer classic rock
anyway, i wish i had been there in the 60s or 70s..

Yeah I know actually a lot of people now that LOVE 60's 70's and 80's stuff.

I, too, would have loved to have been around in like the mid 70's or 80's.

If there's no music scene where you live, start one!!! Bar owners are just like any other business person...if you can bring a crowd in and they can make some money off you...they'll let you play.

I'm in a small town and back in the early 90's there were 3 or 4 bars in town that had bands playing pretty regularly. Now there is one bar that has a band play on Saturday night...mostly of the country variety. There are still a lot of guys out there playing in garages, but I think it's time we take the city back.

there is absolutely no rock and roll scene here in the Philippines...all bands are like emo and pop...some filipino "wannabe" rappers are also in the music scene...i really hate it! Actually,im the only teenager in my age who likes old school rock and roll...they always listen to those crappy and gayyish emo bands and some "ChickRock" bands who play verryyy crappy music...how i wish all of us could meet and form an organization to revive rock and roll, blues, and metal...

i wish i was born in the 80's/70's and witness those very great bands who really made real music...

The Philippines sound like shit for music... Rap sucks, and emo and pop too.
It would be cool if we all met and revived it, I don't know many 12 y/os into like AC/DC and all them.

Me too shredder, me too...

I like your attitude... Rock n Roll certainly could use a revival, with garbage like Hinder and Nickelback as it's noteworthy bands right now, but I'm not sure that blues is in a bad place right now, and metal certainly doesn't need any reviving.
