hey everybody,
I was thinking of doing a project kind of like a "thick as a brick"-ish sort of thing (so quite a long song with different musical themes) and I thought it might be fun to get some other people involved.

what I mean to do is a pass-on sort of thing. In other words, I make the intro, then the next person makes the second part etc..
this could go on till we have about thirty or forty minutes of music (depends on how many people are willing to participate of course)

here is a (possible) intro to the song:

http://soundcloud.com/bluesguitar101/project-intro

if there is anyone who is interested, just send me a PM, and we'll see what rolls out of it ;)

thanks for wanting to participate!
I'm nearly done with the first part, so I'll upload it ASAP.
I will also send it to Thatguitarguy so that he can continue the piece

it's still the four of us who are in right now, but if there are more who want to join, that's still possible ;)

Am I supposed to use the intro that is already posted on here? Or am I just being impatient?

I think you are impatient :D. Wait for the bg to have his part done and post you the piece and continue from that, but from experience... these will take time sometimes :D...

I'm terribly sorry to have kept you all waiting for so long (especially thatguitarguy) but I'm delighted to see you're so anxious to start! XD
please tell me what you think about the first part (I know my playing isn't that great so don't be afraid to give any negative critique.
but above all, have fun with the next parts! :)

but I dont know how convenient that is for everyone else.

mmm I think it might be useful to upload your piece to soundcloud, I can play it on aviary, but I can't download it and that's what I need to do in order to put our two parts together and pass them on to Jazzmaverick. soundcloud's really easy (and free) you'll have it up in no time!
nice tune by the way! ;)

@williamfret: hey man, if you join you can really do whatever you want with your part of the song, as long as there is some sort of bridge from the previous part to yours. If you would want to play any metal that is completely fine of course! just do whatever you like to play and I'm glad you're willing to participate!

one lil suggestion if i can speak my mind: you guys should make it more into a "piece" thing, right now its like two separate things...

maybe as gshredder sort of implied, the next person can sort of add bass phrases for that sweet 1st section for example...

but if you want to stick to this 1st gtr > into > 2nd > into > Nth guitar thing maybe have the part shorter and more similar to each other i dunno...

love this idea tho + the beginning of the song! :)

@suppuss: the project is meant like all the parts are forming one song with smooth transitions and such... your idea is pretty good. maybe gshredder2112 could add some bass and drums after all the parts are finished (only if he wants to offcourse) to make it sound more like a whole.

you could join the project as well if you'd like that! XD

woa Emp! that sure is one sweet track dude!

I was just thinking, as some people are having difficuties making smooth transactions between theirs and the previous part, it might just be a better idea to abandon the "one song" idea and let everybody make a seperate song. lemme know what you think okay?

I think separate parts could be better in songs like this, its more simplier imo, other hand, if people wanna do mixdowns tracks it can be done also... but its harder, other way is that have a "complete backingtrack" done by someone without leads or both leads and rhythm and then ppl just "jam" on it.

glad you like it man :)

Separate songs is a good idea when you all involved here dont have discussed the key or bmp of the project..Totally free separate will turn out like different song whit no pauses between them.
A complet backingtrack is a good idea but its ezier for musicans here to start work whit a track for you if you all woted and decided the key and the bmp you wanna do your leads and solo´s in.

Deciding key to "backing track" is not necessary. You only need to put it to "parts" like if the song is 4:00 minutes long, there is 4 partisipants then each record 1:00 lead to it. Then upload their version, where the next can easily continue lead to next 1:00 part.

well... key is there, you dont actually need decide it and its cool to try a key and scales that you are not familiar with. But ofcourse it help people if they know the key and therefore it might be easier, but not necessary.

Im not into much "planning" or "woting" because in online world where different people have their own lives and so on and time is... well, occupied Ive seen many projects forgotten because they didnt actually even started :)

I also think that in this project, you can have both if things work out. You can have people who done one part together, then one separate part continued with collaboration part forexample. It just need mixing.

I didnt mean you all to play in the same scale.
the key is for basic and for to know what chords to use in the backingtrack.
You can of course use alternative scale and solutions.

ok, I've reconsidered everything and I think it's best that everyone just makes a part and hands it in, and then when we have everything collected we'll decide how to glue everything together into one fluent song.

so, for the time being we have:

me& Emp (parts already finished)
thatguitarguy (might want to do his part again since it's a little
short)
jazzmaverick, guitarshredder & william fret (still have to do their
part)
pxm & Suppuss (may want to join)

of course, that would be great fun - but right now Im kind of busy whit acouple of collabs allready but I can try to come up whit something during the late summer.

maybe that will be out of the timelimit and slow this project down ???
