using whammy bar

Im not 100% sure I spelt it right and whether it comes under "technique" but...anyway...I tried out using the whammy bar earlier but it keeps making my guitar out of tune. Is this supposed to happen? If not how do I stop it from going out of tune, im getting pretty sick of tuning it.

While tuning your guitar, depress the whammy bar every time you move the tuning key, until all strings are in tune.

HOWEVER!!!
If you do this, your guitar WILL detune if you bend the string.
BUT!!!!!!!
It will retune if you depress the whammy bar.

After doing this, do not touch your tuners if you feel out of tune, until you depress the whammy bar. If you are still out of tune, retune but don't forget to depress the whammy bar.

(During tuning depressing the whammy bar may cause your guitar to go as much a a half step up, so once you get a half step below the desired note, make small changes, and depress the whammy bar after each turn until in tune.

If you have money to blow you can have a locking nut and fine tuners installed. It'll cost between $200 - $500 depending on guitar style and where you go.

There's only two ways out of it: what Dom said, buy a floyd/kahler system and have it installed, or don't use the whammy bar. The latter is free.

Bridges expand your plethora of ways to express yourself.
Although some people find tremolo bars""silly"" I put mine too good use.

I don't like 'em because I have to take care of them and can't pay someone else to do it(broke, mostly). Floyd's are a pain in the ass compared to a basic Fender style trem or a hard-tail bridge. Plus I prefer to bend notes since I always sort of found myself using the whammy in cliche ways, or just using it because it's there to use--never for anything that really made me feel like I needed to have it. They're definitely fun to have and play with, but it's a preference thing.
