Not legally, although some bands release albums or samplers for free (though they are few and far between)

Spotify lets you listen to music for free and get's a good write up you could try it out.

Yes you could download the audio from the video but a lot of the time it's not the best quality and it's also illegal.

But you won't get caught!

well i really can't comment considering that you are from egypt. i know some countries' laws vary on what is allowed/not allowed. (for an extreme example, the entire internet is very censored in china) i know that some sites i used to use for music downloading have since had their connections terminated from within the united states by federal order.

so.... it varies.

Download illegally at your own risk and don't say no one told you not to. Like Gx1327 said, "it varies". Here in Germany you can get busted with a 10,000 € fine for illegal downloads. If you can't stand anything but free... Trying streaming and/or, as Nullnaught implied, Youtube ripping.

Rock on!

If you do download off youtube I would avoid installing any programs to do it unless you have a good enough grasp of anti virus to eliminate any threats.

www.listentoyoutube.com is safe

@william

Yeah, you won't pay 10k for killing someone, you'll be in jail for 10k years, or depending on where you live, you'll pay with your life.

Downloading music illegally goes against everything I stand for as a musician. That's why I stream using Spotify.

im not against downloading music illegally simply because

1) it gets anyones name out there..... whether youre just starting or even if you have one of the biggest bands out there. SOMEBODY has never heard of you before. hell, i wouldnt know 95%(??) of the bands that i know now if it wasnt for illegal downloading

2) why buy it when you can download it??...i dont do music for the money anyway

Ill quote myself on something I told guitarslinger124 awhile back.

"Your a real musician, you dont care if people
steal your music,or plagiarize it. As long as someone is enjoyng
it who cares?""

Im in for the money, and if i want to live from music,i should start supporting real artists, ppl these days dont really know or care how hard is still to make a good record, and even harder, sell it.

Yeah if you want to make it as a professional musician and make music for a living people need to actually buy your music. Sure you can make and write music when you're broke, but it costs money to record and distribute it, and if you're giving it away for free you're just gonna get more broke

@bbt IMO there are more people(like you) who prefer buying rather than downloading anyway

@alexb when you say stuff like that it makes it sound more of a job then something you actually like to do

dont get me wrong.....i know thats the reality of the situation. we ALL want money, but it is gauranteed that money will go...but your fans wont, downloaders or buyers. thats what im trying to get at

Labels (album sales) don't make major artists money, live shows do...correct me if I'm wrong.

I paid $50 for my ticket and $50 for my wife's ticket to Arcade Fire. That's a lot more than a $17 cd. The percentage of the cut is a ton higher for a live show.

Most bands get less than a cent for one of their songs being sold on itunes after apple and the label take their cut

The percentage they get from advertising revenue on services like spotify is also miniscule.

I've actually found in some instances it's cheaper to buy a hard copy cd than paid for downloads and the artist does get a bigger cut so I buy cds instead of downloading.

Here is the thing. Illegally downloading music is flat out STEALING. If you are okay with downloading music in this fashion, then you are saying it is okay to steal. There really is no debate about it.

What one considers Right and wrong is questionable btimm, its not
for you to judge if stealing is right or wrong.
Its for the person commiting it to judge.

@gs2112 I gotta disagree here. If you think there is no right or wrong with stealing then I may come to your house and steal all of your gear. Then I'm gonna say that I committed the stealing so it's up to me to judge whether it's right or wrong. I'll say it's RIGHT and since I'm right will ask you to show me where you keep any other valuable things that I can RIGHTFULLY STEAL!!!

You make an excellent point mosh.

I guess the point I want to make now is,that
people only find stealing wrong when threre the ones
getting stolen from.Its a double-standard i suppose.
I realize that now.

But I stil say its up too the owner of the stuff being
stolen to protect it,it doesnt make it right that people
steal it,but if they care so much they should do something
about it rather than go.""Stop,no,dont take my millions""Its up.too
to the musicians and labels too defend there assets.

@TANCLAWS +1

@btimm since i feel like what you said was directed towards me(and other illegal downloaders) then im not saying that its ok to steal or download illegally, but if youre wiling to accept the perks as well as the consequences of anything that youre going to do....then....do it.

gshredder2112 says:

same thing as someone who will say f*ck police but then call them when they have trouble lol......

I couldn't disagree more. In fact, until reading this thread, I didn't know a single person in my life who thought that stealing was okay in any circumstance.

@Btimm calm down gsh2112 didn't mean stealing litteraly he just meant the illegaly downloading it's not a big crime and anyway you guys don't have to do something illegal you go on youtube listen the song you want then goodbye, why bother buying if you can hear it for free legaly on youtube , but the matter is some people want to listen music without using internet that's the big matter

youtube lets you play one song at a time. Thats cool but kind of a pain.
