1. If I know all the notes on the fret board and how chords are made, do I need to learn all the chords individually?

2. Can anyone suggest an exercise to practise bending?

If you know how chords are made and all the notes,id suggest figuring out you own ways to play chords, with the correct notes.

E---------------------------|--10-(12)---------|
B---------------------------|----------9-(11)--|
G---------------------------|----------------12|
D---------------5-----------|------------------|
A---------5-(7)----7-5------|------------------|
E----5-8---------------(8)-5|------------------|
play throught the scales, then bend all the notes in parenthesis.

@ OP: Yes, learn as many different ways to make chords as possible. Learning the formation yourself should add to your knowledge though.

@ 2112: I give up. What on earth does \M/(*-+) mean? lol

for the bending part part.
play two notes like so

e--5-6-
B------
G------
D------
A------
E------
these notes going half step, whole step, and a whole half step apart up the fret board.

after you do that play the first note and then bend it to try and match the second note. try to make the two notes sound the same.
like so

1/2
e--5---(6)-|
B----------|
G----------|
D----------|
A----------|
E----------|

1/2 means a half step bend. repeat this with all the steps you can and then move up one fret and do it again on all strings. repetition is key.
