I have 5 callouses built up(4 on the fretting hand, 1 on my tapping finger).
I also use a string lube that smooths and softens them considerably.
Mine usually get really pronounced when I play for a long period of time, typically to the point of my fingers start to hurt a little when I play(around 3-4 hours). The next day I've got steel callouses man haha

Do your finger tips get sore after playing? If the answer is no, you have them, you just cant see them. If the answer is yes, you play too often without giving your finger tips time to heal.

My finger tips are hard, but I only got calluses at first. Are your fret hand fingers 'harder'?

If you have a really light touch and have big frets you will still have something happen to your fingertips.

Doesn't matter what the string gauge is so much dude, that's more of a matter of finger strength. I play 10-52s and they don't give me harder callouses than if I play 13s(though my fingers will literally be fatigued if I do).

I don't have a callus, but my nerve endings are shot on my fretting fingers.

If you play often and your finger tips no longer hurt, you have calluses. They may not be visible to you but they are there.

I used to get them but now my fingers are just hard and it's like normal skin, just a little rougher. When I play for a few hours on an acoustic though they start to hurt, but that's about it.

I have no feeling in the tips of my fingers on my left hand because of calluses... it's fun putting it to hot pans and not feeling anything for a second :)

I dont play too heighten my speed anymore, not to be cawky, but
I feel it is sufficient enough to Amaze, and play what i need
to play. So maybe thats why i cant build them, cause i font practice technique as much, more of a songwriter and Melodic player now.Now not to say i dont/cant shred,I just do it a bit more tastefully, and I just have other priorities now for my composing.
