it seems as if your taking my comments as a personal attack.i said nothing hostile toward you.it seems it is you who takes everything as a personal attack, even when said comments arent even directed at you.

This doesn't even make sense. You got bent out of shape when DanielM was trying to discuss something with you and you do it often. I simply pointed it out to you. I am definitely not feeling like you are personally attacking me, I am pointing out that you are taking comments from others as attacks and you do it often. If you can't open yourself up to this reality, I doubt you will welcome change and I am wasting my time trying to point these things out to you.

DanielM says:
Maybe beyonce is just trying to be a hipster with her chords, because major and minor chords are to "main stream"

what the funk is this supposed to mean? why are major and minor chords "Main stream"? not everyone like only 5th intervals in songs.

@BBT I didn't even say the theundying did D:

I think he was saying that she used things like the 6/9 chord because she wanted to be better than majory and minor.

@Gshredder I wasn't trying to get you to change your mind only inspire thought, sorry if I offended you.

Why has opinion turned into personal attacks? Everyone needs to take a BIG chill pill. It's a matter of opinion, so why is everyone getting annoyed with someone else's views?

Well, it looks like my work here has concluded somewhat prematurely - great responses everyone!

As some of you know, I'm studying a music degree at university. I'm now nearing the end of my final year, and one of the topics I've been studying is music aesthetics (in other words, the philosophy of music). The debate of 'what is good' and 'what is bad' in music is one that arises time and time again. Furthermore, on a related note, the question of whether some music is more important than others is also asked a lot. These are the conclusions I have come to:

There is no such thing as 'good' or 'bad' music. Whether you like it or not, music is nothing more than organised noise, be it Beethoven, Sinatra, Metallica, Britney Spears, whoever. Which listener of music has the right to say that their noise is better than anyone else's noise? Answer - nobody. However, you are more than entitled to say that you don't like a particular artist/band/genre, as long as you understand that in doing so you are not placing less validity on that artist/band/genre.

OK, prepare yourself, because you won't like this next point.

No music is more important than other music. Whether you like it or not, Rebecca Black is just as important as Beethoven. Regardless of the reasons for the music's creation (in Black's case for commerciality and financial gain, in Beethoven's case for artistic exploration AND commerciality and financial gain) any music still holds just as much validity as any other, because it is impossible for a set of principles that everyone can agree on to be established that determine what makes music important.

These are very condensed versions of the conclusions I have come to, and I will gladly go into more depth if anyone would like me to. I'm sure that everyone will have arguments to make that counter what I've said and I openly invite you to do so!

No one is insulting you and I never said you were insulting anyone else, so I am unsure why you even mention that. My whole point was that you get bent out of shape sometimes when people say things to you. That is all. I was trying to help you out, not criticize you. But nevermind, it isn't worth the effort to be honest.

So Afro, I like challenges! So if your statement is that no music is more important than other, I have some doubts, first. Beethoven's organized noises got attention worldwide in circle of similar "Noise organizers" And his compositions of organized noises become the "guideline" of many composers even if organized noise style is different than beethovens... so Beethovens noises were extremely important to development of organized noises. Rebecca... well... Im sorry, but I cant see the how her organized noises can be as important than Maestro Beethoven's noises.

mmm.. other thing... in consept music, there is also a words that is called funny "lyrics" in the mess of organized noises. That give the possibility to make strict message to one who listens the compostion of organized noises.

I cant see the connection with Friday and Bob Marley's There is much trouble in the world named organized noises (with "message") to listener.

There are thousand of other beside Bob Marleys compostion that is as good opposition to Repecca blacks friday.

I know what you could try to say next, what makes other message more important than other message, well... its not to be explained with one or two lines eh?

Ok guys, enough. Seriously.

Gshred, I assume because English isn't your first language you are taking more offense than you should. There is no personal attack towards you, nor has there ever been.

And maybe because English isn't your first language; the way you occasionally type may come across to us as if you are offended.

That is that - no offense on either party guys. So stop. This was a harmless thread.

IMO an Embarrassment to music is someone who takes other people's music and turns it into something stupid (Weird Al). I don't like Rebecca Black's song but I feel that she only did that song because she doesn't have much experience in music.

Also to everyone building up tension on the forum.

No one wants this. You do add much to this forum and it would be a shame if you took this course of action. I apologize for trying to help you when it was unwanted in the first place. I will stick to just discussing topics on this forum and not do anything else.
