I believe I read before that you would love to make a soundtrack for anime. Have you made any music yet for something like that?

Who is your favorite musician?

Jazzy,
You've been at Uni now for almost 2 years. Can you tell us......
Which class have you enjoyed most?
Which class have you found most difficult (and why)?
Which class were you most prepared for?
Which class took you completely by surprise?
Is there any specific concept that you have learned so far that has had a dramatic affect on your playing or understanding of music?

you have 30 seconds...................... GO!

lol

@ BBT- hahah! I knew someone was going to ask that! I'm actually working on a few songs now. Hopefully have them uploaded by the end of April. :)

@Gshred, I own a crappy Encore - twas my first guitar, Then a very sexy SG, a nameless acoustic I won at an arcade in Alton Towers, another nameless acoustic which was a gift from a family member - I dare not tell how sh!t it is, I might not make it out alive! Then I saved up the little money I earned to buy my all time dream guitar - The Luna Fauna Phoenix! Tis a sexy beast. Later I will get it's twin - the dragon. :)

@ Jeff, It's tough to say, but honestly it would have to be George Benson and Nobuo Uematsu. Joe Hisiashi soon to follow.

George Benson has an unmatched passion for his guitar - while also singing, knowing what he's going to play and sing at the exact time, a lot of his songs I truly benefit from. His knowledge is far greater than I ever expected.

Nobuo Uematsu, because when I was about 8 or 9 years old his music for the particualr game; Final Fantasy VII took me somewhere I never believe existed. I never knew how passionate music can be until I heard what he made. Songs that would stick in your head for aaaages, compositions that would compliment the game scene so brilliantly that I just knew that's exactly what I want to do when I grow up. :)

Joe Hisiashi is the soundtrack composer for all of the Ghibli films. My particular favourites are Princess Mononokee, Spirited Away & Nausicaa. These films have such an amazing fantasy while maintaining a true reason for representing the films, brilliant morale of the story in each one. With music to work along side it so perfectly it takes my breath away. A composer like that deserved a lot more credit then we give him. I feel that he's one of the best composers in this generation.

:) I could easily share videos all day haha.

This song actually managed to make me cry!

@ Emp, hahaha! I've given the Bansuri a go - that is seriously complicated! I thought it would be so easy! But the slightest mistake can be fatal.

@ Admiral, Don't kill me - but I actually had a massive thing for blonds because of Nick Carter! hahahaha, Oh to be 7 again. However, black hair is my thing, I'd say. Straight, not curly. Maybe with a hint of Treseme, maybe it's Maybeline... 'cause you're worth it! ;)

@ Btimm, funny you say that. Because right now I am making an Anime myself! I didn't like the artistic way some of my friends were doing in Uni - their teacher's influence had a lot to do with them rejecting Anime and telling me it's not art - and it's not hard to do. They deserve a fish slap but I left them to it. I love writing stories, and I can draw quite well, so I decided to give it a go - this is going to be a project I hope will help develop my career once I'm finished! I have a few years to go though. I will upload some of my compositions to anime that's already been made. :)

@macandkanga,
When I was in college I was utterly *** at guitar - and often the classmates would make fun of me and hated it if I was chosen to be part of their band for the term. I was extremely shy and performed fine, but I couldn't solo for sh!t. I was however, amazing at my theory - which brought me back up to the best grade in the class because studying music came easy to me.
The second year of college I had a new guitar teacher, Chanan Hanspal. He violated our ears in ways I never knew possible - he is a brilliant Jazz player, and seriously deserves more credit then he gets. When it came to all of us playing - he failed us, not one of us passed. Everyone hated him - but he was so right. If he never did that I never would have understood just how important music theory is. So I studied it like crazy, applying almost everything I learned into my played. So when it came to the next time I had to solo in front of the class... I started playing badly for old times sake, looked up, smiled, and then started playing some crazy Jazz. Everyone was shocked by it. hahaha - it felt good! So I ended up getting that nickname. :)

@ Phipster, each year there's something different, but it's definitely got to be the soundtrack composing assignments we were given. I really enjoyed those because they're what I want to do.

There was also this cognition one, that was a true punch in the stomach for me because it helped me to realise just how insignificant my knowledge is. I have sooooooo much to learn, I can't even explain how much. The lessons was Cognition. :)

I was most prepared for a fair amount of them, when we first started I knew all of the scales and modes my teacher was listing out while the others didn't even know how to read music, any of it. So I waited until they caught up with me haha. (honestly not trying to sound cocky here)

Again, Cognition has to be the one for the surprise... that was just insane. Oh also this one lesson we had... Tim Blinko gave us the lesson - a teaser for the masters degree haha. Basically connecting music to space. That was amazing, a real eye opener for me and I loved it because I also love astronomy! :)

mmm yeah, I would say my interpretation of music is probably entirely different now that I've gone to Uni... I think on a completely different level - trying to relate almost everything together, working it out in my head to push my knowledge even further. The Cognition has something to do with that, as it helped me to understand that even the simplest thing can change one's mood, even timing.

Little video clip for you all... probably one of my favourite TV adverts ever because the music is just so perfect for it. I laugh every time.

Yep, I study Astronomy. Everything about space baffles me and space itself is it's own mysterious language. I only wish we could truly understand the universes around us. (Yep, I said Universes! There's more than one!)

Take a look at this for example... This just proves how tiny we really are...

Then think... in the middle of every single galaxy is a massive black hole... And without these black holes we would not be alive! Black holes emit elements from the middle of it - projecting it out into space, and without it doing that - new stars couldn't be born nor could planets.

Watch this if you have the time... it just explains the true wonders of our universe.

Other than that I really like to draw!

I have many more recent drawings due to the Anime I'm making but here's a few...

@Nullnaught, agreed dude! :D

@ Gshred,
My favourite anime... that's tough... I have A LOT. I'll give a top 10... not in any particular order.

Death Note
Code Geas
Chobits
X'amd
Kaicho wa maid-sama
Elfen Lied
The Melancholy of Haruhi Shuzimiya
Tengen Toupa Gurren Lagan
Magic Knight Rayearth
EscaFlowne

These are a number of genres - some being very, very graphic and violent - not advised for anyone younger than 18. Just take my word for it. I like them because the storyline REALLY makes you think.

I don't have a favourite genre in Anime to be honest... I like comedy, I like serious mysteries, thrillers, action, fantasy... you name it.

And sure :) I'll send you all one later on haha. It'll take a few years though - I'm taking it very seriously. I'll definitely get it out there when I'm done. :)

@Skater,

Maya's birthday is actually two days after mine! Wheyyy. Obviously she's got a few years on me but hey. She looks so young for her age, too.

I like her music, it's something I could drive to on a summer's day. But I wouldn't go any further! I remember drawing some crazy giant elephant to her song and Weird Al Yankovich (I made a mix CD and it was just those two).

I love it when you hear a song and suddenly memories are triggered... that's another reason why I love music so much - it is just THAT powerful.

@ Gshred,

yeah I've seen the movies :)

@ Admiral,

Honesty, sense of humour, thirst for knowledge, being themselves. I really can't stand people who try to be something they're not just because others think it's cool.

My uni is kept as a secret :) There's a limit to my location I wish to tell on the internet.

My all time favourite guitar solo... hm... Maybe Guthrie Govan's solo in Fives. Damn... his whole song is just brilliant in my opinion.

@ Nullnaught,

I can't remember where I found it but I got it off the internet somewhere.

@ Jeff,

I always enjoyed the typical "elevator music" but I never really took the time to listen to it because my family was very much into country. Anyway, when I met my guitar teacher in college I studied it like crazy and just loved everything about it. It was the fact that it was so different to me that I generally found it as a slap in the face to what I thought I was good at. I found it as a brilliant challenge to understanding music so I took that challenge and came to love it, then came to obsess over it haha. :D

@ Alex, I would very much like to make soundtracks for films/shows/games. So that's why I'm doing everything I can to work my ass off at Uni - getting the top grade so I can decide if I want to go to masters, then work for Sony. :)

@ Btimm, thanks dude! :)

Thanks Phipster! That's a tough question actually... Probably Stomp... because it was just so different for it's time, that it was just so inspirational.

I've been to so many... each of different genres - which in itself brings different type of people. The metal gigs I've been to I had a brilliant time in a mosh pit, had some chunky, shirtless man wipe his back sweat on me - then shoved my friend's face in it AHAHA good times.

Billy Ocean was great too, because people even got up and started dancing.

Lights was also amazing because everyone was just so friendly, and I even got a picture with her. She also signed my CDs :)

And Nick Carter - It took me some time to get over this statement! haha
He did have a very interesting hairstyle..but it seems like all the girls loved it! And I had to look up on Treseme, but it looks worth it, haha. Im sure Nick Carter was using it all the time, this is what made him so irresistable! ^^

JAPAN

I love everything about Japan, even it's brutal ancient history. Amazing stuff.

Then I also want to go to Australia - 'cause they're badass.

I taught myself all the music that I know. I attempted a teacher, but his opinion was very narrow minded. He was still a decent guy though, just not someone I'd pay to teach me.

I was always very musical, having a number of little toy instruments since I was about 2 or 3. But my first official instrument that was acceptable size and not the size of my hand was drums. My 7th birthday I went downstairs and saw it. I loved it and made noise all day until I was bribed to get off it for Root Beer... damn I love that stuff!

The first instrument I ever took seriously was Piano. And it was beautiful to me, it just created this sound that could express my soul if I wanted it to. I love it.

Nick Carter was the bomb... until he dated that gigolo Paris Hilton. ugk makes me sick! He's dead to me now.

@ Gshred,

Admiral already asked me that question :) Look up dude! haha

haha, you are the best! I might want to jump onto this train:

And how does the thought of the possibility of having your hair not in shape affect your playing?

And Paris Hilton is a Chick, all the stupid stuff she does is just for publicity I guess (Except for maybe her famous movies) No doubt she is stupid but I guess she must be different in real life, not in front of a camera.

Empirism, I NEARLY mistook you for being serious! A few things miiiight have been deleted! .>

@ Admiral, I think I'll let that question slide! haha

@ NullNaught, I used to be married to a tree, Maple was the best fcuking tree ever... But then I was influenced with what Phip did and decided to smoke Maple. May it rest in peace...
