Where's the love for Muse?

i addressed 'hysteria' in an earlier post..!

this is a somewhat old threat, but i never posted my two youtube uploads so i'll take advantage of them now...

this isn't as timely as i'd like it to be, but a few months ago TV on the Radio's bassist Gerard Smith passed away. he was 36, i think it was lung cancer. it was one of those freak things where he was diagnosed and ~6 months later he passed. he wasn't JUST their bassist, they're one of those bands where every member is a multi-instrumentalist.

TVOTR is an amazing american band. this bass line is from their latest album which was released... i don't know, 2 months? before he passed. "will do"

it's not ridiculous slappy hyperness... it's simple and beautiful. lots of whole notes. not that i'm against super-fast slappy bass. every bass lines has its role, but man, this legato slide bass line is just so pretty...

[for all you guitar dorks, you should check out kyp malone the guitarist. he has a ridiculous collection of guitars and he is playing a different one each performance]

part 2 ---

this might not be the best bass line, but in my opinion this is the best song by this kickass brooklyn band. he's the one playing the bass. RIP.

so i'm allowed one more. when i think of a solid bass line i can't think of anything other than the pixies' kim deal. all of their songs were driven by the bass line, but the rhythm and lead guitars still defined the music...

anyway here's my point: i get the impression that a large majority of this forum consists of youngins. i know there are a few old guys who know their roots, but... i don't know i just get this overwhelming feeling that i need to educate everyone.

so, in case you don't know who the pixies are... consider this: without the pixies, there is no nirvana. without nirvana, there is no pearl jam. withour pearl jam, there... exponentially it grows from there. the pixies are the original alternative rock band.

and i can't think of any better bass line than the "surfer rosa" track that kim deal sang lead on.
