Hi everybody!

I,m just a beginner in playing guitar, but not really a beginner. I just want to say that because of my problem with picking. I started playing guitar few years ago. I like playing cover guitar solos from different metal bands, but I'm not staying in metal. I play other genre.

Well, I go straight to my problem.
I just figured out that everytime I do descending scales going up from 1st to 6th string, I notice I got a problem with picking. I use 3 notes per string, and I always strike the 1st note with downstroke, 2nd note upstroke,3rd note downstroke. That's the 1st string e. Then to the 2nd string b, 1st note upstroke, 2nd note downstroke,3rd note upstroke. I can play the 1st 3 notes in 1st string e clean.the problem is the 2nd string everytime I'm done with the 1st string, going up to the 2nd string playing the 1st note of it, the last note of the 1st string is always accidentally being played, so picked the last note of first string TWICE..How can I avoid playing it accidentally twice when I'm done of it?? Is it my picking?
Thanks for helping..

Maybe you are touching the top e string when you are moving over it to the upstroke on the b string with something? Maybe your pick, or the palm of your hand?

Kamusta ka pre. Katulad nang sinabi ko sa iba... Welcome sa forum namin.

Bilang sa problema mo... Ang iyong pamamaraan ay walang problema... Because you're doing alternate picking and you just need to play slower for your hands to get used to the distance between the strings... this is your mistake because you're not properly focusing on the distance nor taking the time to play it slower so you ALWAYS make sure you never hit it.

Practicing simple things like this 30 minutes a day can seriously benefit you from becomming a brilliant musician.

Remember: SLOOOOOOOOW is the key to success :)

Kung mairon kang kailangan maraming forum membro ang pwede tumulong sayo; so tanong ka nalang! :)

well thanks..Admiral is right, I's touching the b string. You said Maybe the pick. Did I get wrong pick? There's no problem with my palm, so can I ask what is the right gauge of pick I could use if I play metal riffs and solos?

to JazzMaverick.
Woooooooww..Filipino Pare. Salamat tol. lagi ako nag uumpisa ng mabagal pero pag nag taas na ako ng beat,paminsan-minsan sumasabit parin. Pano mag taas ng speed ng malinis na pag tugtog. How can I increase my speed in scaling? I used metronome but, I guess ang kelangan ko ay ecxercise para bumilis ang speed. Kung may mga right or left finger excercise ka tulungan mo naman ako. pwede mo ba ituro sa akin? Tab or something..Thanks. What is the right gauge of pick anyway?

Well, you should probably have a closer look at what you are doing there, and then tell us what makes the string ringing? From what you have said I can't say that it is the pick, i just guessed. There is no "right" gauge, but for metal I like strong picks as you have to play many solo parts and have a lot of fast low-string-strumming as well as palm muting.
