are they chords? or something to do with keys? what's the point of putting them there? is that how you know which notes to play when only looking at normal music notation?

also for tabs what does it mean when a note has a circle around it? i don't see them very often. its not a note like (8) it's a full circle... and btw doesnt a note like (8) just mean you dont strike that note but you hear it like if you were to slide up to it right?

If you mean like this, then yes it's the chords.

The guitar doesn't always play the chords, but it could be good to know the chord changes of the song you're playing anyway.

The circle might mean that the note is tapped, I'm not really sure though.

About this: (8) - it probably has different meanings, depending on who wrote the TAB. For example it can be a note bent up to.
