i just heard this the other day... did you know that maynard used to do STAND UP COMEDY??? not only that, but he has made numerous appearances in sketch comedy shows like "mr. show with bob and david". i had to see it to believe it and sure enough... he's even in "run ronnie run" a movie based off a character from that show. i mean i knew he was a fan of bill hicks, but i thought it was more of a posthumous obsession thing... not like, they were friends and opened stand up comedy for each other. freaking weird!!!

i've never seen them live but i've heard mixed reviews of their shows. their music is awesome, don't get me wrong, but a buddy of mine saw them in dallas and he said there was like a 15 minute long part of the show where they were all sitting in a circle on the stage chanting, not holding any instruments. yeah that sounds like tool alright, but he said it was pretty boring if you weren't on some kind of drugs (just drunk)

uh oh, btimm... i was just checking my local concert schedule... minus the bear is playing at the firebird in july. the firebird is this real sht hole club close to downtown. i saw electric six and the aquabats there... it really is a stink hole. the stage is laughably low to the ground so it's impossible to see anything unless you are up close, and it's the kind of place that has punk rock shows so you can expect to be part of a mosh pit/crowd surfing scenario (hey i'm an old man now i'm not 17 anymore)

the last show i was at some kid was crowd surfing and he got sent my way but i couldn't do anything about it because i had a beer in my right (dominant) hand and he fell. HAHAHAHA. awesome. oh and then the lead singer of the aquabats brought these kids up on the stage, ages 5-8, at their first concert ever. he tossed htem into the crowd. i mean, hurled them like a sack of garbage. awesome. (the lead singer of the aquabats is also one of the creators of yo gabba gabba on nickelodeon, so the all ages crowd was half kids with their parents and half punk ska kids such as myself)

You need to go see Minus the Bear. I hear they put on an amazing show and I really want to watch the guitarist specifically. They were her ein Charlotte a few weeks, but I was in a bad mood because I had no one to go with me and I was frustrated with a part of the drywall project I did on my garage. Big mistake and I regretted wit when I stopped being so pissed off.

And yeah, Maynard is like the weirdest dude ever.

I didn't mention them, but other concerts I have been to include:

A Perfect Circle
Less Than Jake
Counting Crows
Brad Paisley (wife is a big country fan)

@ Mac - Ritchie was louder than Motorhead? I thought Motorhead was the loudest band ever? Like, factually lol. I think I heard about it being in the Guiness book or something.

I saw Ritchie at the Fabulous Forum in L.A. in the late 70's. The place is huge and enclosed. Also, there werent any rules on decibel levels back then. I saw Motorhead at the Glen Helen Pavillion which is an amphitheater. I love me some Motorhead but they sounded like shiznit that day. They were loud but not that loud and the treble was way to high.

@Bodom
Stevie opened for Jeff Beck and blew him away. I went to see Jeff Beck but he was into his electronica kinda stuff. It was kinda boring. Stevie was awesome!

Hahahah! I know, I know. We don't get many big acts around here so I went there with cousins who liked him. It was fun just being there cause I didn't go out a lot at that time and I my parents practically made me go.

finally saw radiohead for the first time in... 2007? 2008? it was a good show, but it was at the big outdoor amphiteater ("riverport"). i HATE riverport. it's out in the middle of nowhere, and it seriously took, no joke, longer to get out of the parking lot than the length of the concert. radiohead played for about 90 minutes, we waited 2 hours in the parking lot before getting out. i spent 45 minutes of those 2 hours waiting in line for a porta john. miserable.

muse... eh i have mixed feelings for muse. absolution is one of my top... probably my favorite album of all time. their two previous albums were good, and black holes was the same style of music. when i last saw them, they were mildly popular in the US and played at an appropriately sized venue (indoor, maybe 10,000 people?).

their new album is all stadium cck-rock and i'm not a huge fan of it. on top of that, they are gaining a lot of popularity in the states which means that the next time they come through they are playing at the dome where our NFL team plays -- 50,000+. i am in no mood to see that show.

but i can only imagine how intense of a show they play in the UK. oh, i've seen fotage. i actually have the DVD with muse playing live at wembley. that looks so fun on TV, but i could imagine it being a miserable experience to just be crammed in with so many people!!!

i also saw tool is playing at the "st charles family arena" at the end of june but... i mean i've never seen them, but i don't think i could find anyone to go with me, and st charles family arena? it's worse if you are from the area, but st charles is a super-suburb town about 30 minutes outside of downtown st louis. it's the type of place where you have to drive 5 minutes on the highway to get to anything. being a downtown urbanite who walks everywhere that is very unappealing to me.
