Hey, I'm seriously considering using the body of my Squire strat and making my own little Frankenstrat-ish type thing. I figure it'd be good because it sounds good. Only thing I'd still use off of it is the trem/bridge because I don't want to put another one on it.

go for it, but in all honesty, I would block the trem. Just me though, I did it to my strat and the sustain came up considerably. Stays in tune much better though.
Anyways, go for it!

Oh. No. I'm definetely keeping the trem in use. It's fine. I'm gonna get some Schaller tuners to replace the stock Squire ones though. Anyone know how to strip a guitar of the paint? If you do lemme know. I'm gonna try to come up with a design and try to get my uncle to airbrush it for me.

I see, if you want to keep the trem in use, then I would suggest buying a heavier block. That'd be the same as the blocking for sustain purposes. They're only about $10-15 from this place www.guitarfetish.com
I'm also in the process of building up my explorer copy, gonna be like the VH guitar(black and white) but the explorer body and a floyd rose trem(I sharked the parts off my ibanez).
Good luck though man!

Another block? What? Dude I'm new in the building aspect. Only things I know how to do are very few haha. I figure I'll just learn as I go so I can see what really feels good.

lol I mean the tremolo BLOCK, its the lead thing inside the cavity that the springs attach to. on a Squier strat they are typically not going to be that great, but, getting a heavier one will definitely help your tone.

and BTW the only reason I know about guitars at all technically is because I got bored in class...

Haha. Actually I'm just going to buy a new body of alder, a "Hipshot" trem, and a Kahler locking nut to put on too more efficiently keep it all in tune.
