I brought a Light- heavy .010-.53 strings, but I'm concerned about the bass strings 'cause they don't fit the slots in the nut. This means I gotta buy new strings right? X/

is it okay?....... YES

Do you need a set-up by a pro(even if you are good with your hands I'm going to assume you don't have the tool mainly for the nut)?.................. Hell yes

Thanks guys, but I didn't mean that, I don't wanna touch the nut. I think I'll but new strings. I have a question thought, how could you know what string size is your guitar. I know that if you used strings smaller than the nut's slots the guitar will buzz and if you used larger ones you'll have tuning problem.

I'm going to assume again you don't have the gauge tools to handle nuts, so what you could do is get unstretched strings(new ones or a safe part if your guitar allows) and try to fit the right size, but the better answer is if you haven't change it get the manufactures specs

oh man I recently changed to .52 strings too and it barely fit in my guitars tuning peg. They do sound awesome though especially the higher strings.

yup, i go 12-52 on the old Mustang, love it. But the Godin would freak-out on me if i took it past 10-48, The Black Tele likes a 09-50(custom)and Ye Olden Tele will slap ya if ya try anything over 19-48, and the , and the,

the thing is all guitars (acoustic and electric both) are in some way ordered by some universal force to 'find center' , or rather, their best fitting shoes...

so while ya may wanna TRY , always respect the Plank's wishes ;~)

good luck!

'carl which mustang to have? I so wanna try 12-52 but I don't know if 12 will work on my bc rich. If im gonna get a bunch of string with different sizes and try them that's might cost me time and money cause right now I can only find string packs.

'league doesn't that effect ur tuning? I've tried it and it sounded pretty good but removed them after a while cause I didn't wanted the tension to mess up the nut's slots.

'vincejonesiii ernie ball's are pretty good, but I don't like light tops and heavy bottoms.

don't quite 'get yer meaning' but if yer askin about the old Plank it is, i think, a Pre-CBS Fender Mustang (something wants me to say 1966, but damn, Terry gave it to me over 25 years ago)(wayyyyy before that Kurt kid bought one lol)
i'm not a real 'collector' if thats the gist, i'm a Pro, so lol, collecting is kinda hard, er-uh , make that impossible, lol.
i DO remember all about "Baby" (Guitar my wife bought me in late 80's) cause she was born on a birthday Martin 1953 0-18 (she wears D'adarrio Lights cause shes sensitive)

the best piece of advice on this thread. Ted greene would do out of he way to find the right step up for his many guitars, and when asked way he would say it is what it wanted. if you haven't heard him listen NOW.

here is saved you all some time if you care
