ok i've noticed a few times lately that iv been mentioning bands and musicians to people and often receive a response that could be said to resemble what a dogs face would look like if you showed it a card trick, such bands as:

tin hat trio (formally Tin hat) i really cant impress upon you how good these guys are.. listen to them now people

Deerhoof... a bit crazy and really fun to listen to (it makes me want to jump around lots)

The kidney thieves.. i dont actually remember if they are that good but its a fantastic name for a band, as i recall they did the intro track on Bride of Chucky

Kimya Dawson... music to make you feel like your a little kid i think she did some tracks on the Juno soundtrack

so guys what bands can you think of that more people should know about? or what bands does it surprise you that people don't know about?

Accept, to this day I have never met a person face to face who has known of them, which seems quite odd to me considering how awesome they were.

hahaha Afro you're a nut.

I'm totally late in this topic, but I checked out everything you all recommended and they're awesome. A lot of people already know about Deathklok though, I couldn't get enough of them.

How about Stefano Barone

Wow, that sucks... they deserve to be known (not liked) by everyone, or at least acknowledged...

Anyway I've got more...

Spastic Ink. The song in particular is 'Eights is enough'

Suicide Commando

Supergrass

Joe Hisaishi

The Seatbelts (it's like a Jazz orgasm!)

These guys did Balls to Wall. They sounded like AC/DC.

Another one was Riot. Check out the album Fire Down Under. It's a classic.

The Jayhawks!

I believe they just came out with some sort of anthology, good way to get started listening to them. My sister has been a fan for a long time, but I didn't start listening to them until I was turned on to them after a trip to see my aforementioned sister. Listening to them reminds me of being on a country road in the summer time, blue sky, and not another human being in sight. It's a great feeling.

p.s. Their genre is quite difficult to pigeonhole, perhaps a reason they haven't been super-successful. I'd say they're an alternative country band if you forced me to come up with a description.

@The Jazzy One

when i get a student who starts thinking "ewww i can play sooo fast now" i play them some "SPASTIC-INK" OR , hehehe some "Freak Guitar" by that wacky MATTIAS IA EKLUNDH (who is one of Robert Fripp's fav listens...not a bad endorsement LOL)
BOTH grate on my nerves after 15mins or so BUT its a fun and funny as hell 15 minutes!

You should all check out "Sleepytime Gorilla Museum" for some amazing, progressive metal. Plus, they're just crazy.

You know... I have Shpongle's albums and didn't even realise it... Seems I've been focusing on Jazz for quite a while!
