They're amazing, I'm so obsessed with their music. I ended up learning most of their tunes on guitar.

From what I remember, Crunch loves them too. We've had numerous conversations about them.

i like 'em to a point...then they grate on me , but yeah! especially 'Delousing ...' and that newish 'Belam...'/b] spin!
the vocals kinda detract imo

have you checked out any of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's solo stuff ? last years 'Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fungus' is more fun than his band stuff imo.

never pegged ya fer a fan, Jazzy ... check out Omar's stuff if yer diggin' the guitar=)

oh and (same year 2008) his 'The Apocalypse Inside Of An Orange'
reminds me of some crazed hybrid of James Blood Ulmer, Ornette Coleman and Eddie Hazel (W/ Funkadelic) hooking up w/ Mars Volta and Bootsy Collin's !
jaw-dropping , that one!

I love them! I actually saw them live a few years ago, right after they came out with Amputechture. They put on a great show. Cedric runs around all over the place, and Omar plays like he's having an epileptic seizure.

haha gmg

well i took a listen and(not that my opinion matters a whole lot) in my prejudice ways I was gonna say I didn't like them one bit. However, I analyzed as much as I could and I have to say:

1.The singing is my favorite from the band.

2.The songs I heard I barely liked.

3.The songs seems to be covered in mainstream jelly.

so please anyone tell me of any good songs, preferably with good guitar or vocals, that are not too mainstream.

I will continue to listen just to see if anything sticks.

RE-Thought post ^

i was a 'hard-sell' myself, League, but friend kept turning me on at every turn until i came on the realization that "none of this **** sounds like any other of this *** !, i gotta be missing something. i was.

i aint crazy about the new one(YET; and that's the/an oddness of TMV)
and some can be spotty, but for the most part pretty solid (like i said i think you'd dig Omar's 'solo' stuff a LOT more)
they (cds) kinda move , from birth to nowadays, from hardcore infected jazzfunk rage , to noise , to pop.
hit the recent Omar stuff for the real guitar freak-out stuff.
try Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - 'The Apocalypse Inside Of An Orange'
its one seriously crazed jazz-punk/jazz/no-wave/hardcore/funk/hard-bop/prog/sax-infected/riff-ribbed slab of goodness

wait! i forgot his new one (09) 'Old Money' .. i like its abrasive fun better than The Apocalypse Inside Of An Orange

(btw & off-topic: i Just Prod/Rec & Mastered a CD for band w/ yer web-handle ! 'The Vacationist League', lol ...odd world)

Youtube them man. (Learn dude, learn!)

My favourite tracks are "Tetragrammation" , "Meccamputechture" , "Asilos Magdalena" all from the album "Amputechture"

"Tourniquet Man" , "Cavalettas" , "Ouroborous" from 'The Bedlam In Goliath'

"Eriatarka" , "Son et Lumiere" which leads into "Inertiatic Esp" , "Drunkship of Lanterns" from 'De-loused in the Comatorium'

"The Widow" , "Miranda The Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: B. Pour Another Icepack" (Probably my ultimate favourite) from 'Frances the Mute'

LOVE THE MARS VOLTA!!! My favourite would have to be televators from deloused in the comatorium...pretty mellow I know, but eerie and so stark in contrast to the rest of the album...And they are amazing to see live, total nutters!
