need some advice on buying guitar amp.. i was in a guitar store this day and i tried messing around with so many guitars as much as possbile.. (cuz i havent really got one but ima go buy this coming wednesday..) When i played the guitars at the store.. i asked the salesman to hook up the guitars on both practice amp and to a much bigger amp and to my surprise! the sound that i've heard are totally different.. i really like the sound that comes out of the bigger amp.. so my question is.. snce im a little bit tight one the budget.. (i know its X'mas but heck i'm not one of the lucky ones..LOL!! we're looking at 200-250 budget here) i just want to get ur suggestion on what amps should i get thats not really as crappy as small pratice amps? if there are any?? Thanx in advance!!

Go to the music store and try out all the amps in your price range. Pick the one you like best. Try to stick to brands with a good repuatation, like Crate, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Fender, Vox and so on.

Also, if the music store is any good, they should throw in a free cable or something with it. Ask them to if they don't offer, and if they refuse, take your business elsewhere.

i play almost anything but lately i've been starting to practice a lot of metals songs. i got an ibanez RG2ex1 the black one. i believe it is a guitar made for metal but ima still try to play some blues on it and see how it sounds. LOL:P and yea, in terms of amps.. what do u guys think of line 6 spider II and roland cube? which one is better? havent tried it yet, but just in case u guys have either of the two? how does it sound?

Personally I would pick the spider. I have tried the roland cube and found it really overrated and quite overpriced for what it does. i thought it also sounded too synthetic compared to the spider (although both of them are solid state). Of course the cool thing with the spider is the amp modelling function which will really open up your options for different sounds. I know lots of metal players who own spider IIs and love using them for that reason. but that's just my view, like ONeill said above you've just gotta try all the ones you possibly can. Once you've found a particular type of amp you like, try to find others that are similar to it, and eventually you'll find the right one. Also, don't let prices compromise your choice - buy the absolute best one you can afford, you will get much more enjoyment from playing through a decent amp than through a crappy one. Hope this helped!

thanx man! one more thing, i play most of the times at my room, do you think getting a 30W amp wont drive my family nuts? im choosing between 15 and 30 watts but i kinda think 15 watt amps will sound so tiny and i hate that.

id say buy a peavey, ive heard really bad things about the line 6. plus, peavey should suit you better if you're gonna play metal.
