You know that link instructs to sand the paint off but there are some good paint strippers(not real strippers).

I particularly like paint splattered on a white primer or blood splatter.

I finally finished my first ever custom paint job on a guitar a few months back and achieved a virtually factory standard finish. My secret? The 'Paint Your Own Guitar' e-book by John Gleneicki. Absolutely the best value for money, this guy explains the entire process in really simple steps, and it's specifically aimed at people who don't have a clue what they're doing which is perfect for me. You can download it from loads of places, I got my copy from eBay. If you want, I can send you a couple of pages as examples so you can decide?

Very True I like your style.

wow, i have to say this books is pretty great. I have not intention of paining a Zach Wilde type of guitar but form reading one of the books it seems pretty straight forward. I've got a junked up gibson SG that I've been sitting on forever i think I'll get working on.

Hey tele, I will try get some pics up later today, is it the Gleneicki book you're looking at? Just so you know, I didn't do any of the designs in the book, but used all the info he provides to do my own design, so you really aren't limited to just the ones he gives you!

Yeah I know, i'm not really interested in doing any of the designs. I was looking more at the whole process. I think i'll stick with something simple like black for my first guitar. Maybe i'll go crazy and do red.

but my gibson project has a lot of wood work and prep first

The wikihow thing about how to paint your guitar seem dangerous, can't we just take it to a custom car paint shop? plus I think it'll look better unless the paint doesn't work on the guitar body.
