Well then yes, I did read your last post. You said that the amount guitarist after the 70's/80's era declined. Yes, it did. To you. See what other people consider great and what you consider great may be worlds apart. Also you said that instrumental rock was "Just Horrible" and that you'd rather orchestral music. Saying it's horrible is an opinion. Thats what pisses me off though, YOU stated it as a fact as if you are the authority of whats good and what is not. Therefore I stand by what I said earlier in that you are quite narrow-minded musically.

saying its just horrible is an opinion. odviously. how can i make a generalalization about something and declare it a fact?

and yeah ive listened to a lot of it. the only couple artists i care for are jeff beck, gary moore, david gilmour's instrumental stuff. some of malmsteens. dont care much for instrumental rock is a better way of saying, its my opinion that its just horrible. some people like it, i know a lot of people that only listen to it and say music with vocals is just horrible. its personal taste. and maybe since i dont like it i hear that all the guitarists sound the same. same with rap i think all rappers sound the same ( of course both with some exeptions) but most now just sound the same, maybe thats cause i dont listen to it

geez with every sentance i say i need like a page of writing to just explain it so i dont get ranted at. g@d.

Well then you should have just said that in the first place and this argument would never have been. And no, you don't need a page of writing, you just need to stop acting like some all-knowing power of what is good and not based what you like and just another person with an opinion like the rest of us.

Now once again, I'm done. Chill.

Oh my god dude, I'm not just directing this at you. It's just that what you said got under my skin. I'd argue my point with anyone. Personally I just lay low and do my own thing. Seems to work for me. Although different situations may come with different outcomes.

Whats wooping?
Did you mean "whopping"? or is "wooping" another foreign British word.

Has anyone even surpassed guitarboy in post count?

This is my first post on the thread so back on topic Yes, everyone has horrible tone especially Metal. I try to have different tone than the other guitarist in our band and I have to say I like it.

Are the backing tracks the same for the contest entry?

Where can I find this contest and is it too late to enter?

i hate to change topics but what the hell.

*warning* this is opinion based and excludes novelty and timbre*warning*
i always thought the ukulele was a useless instrument in practical performance and could always be replaced/traded up for better. the only thing i think it is good for is just sitting around goofing off, after eating or something or such. And the banjo also seems void to me seeing how guitars can be amplified and are unquestionably far superior harmonic instruments, but you could never total replace the five string banjo form Bluegrass and damn do i love bluegrass but obvious not a big fan of banjo breaks but "Keith tuning Pegs" solos are kick ass ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKnPRvdeT0s )[i'm also tying to get a forum movement to post links not the videos it slowing the crap out of my PC when there is a whole pages of em and a few others have stated that too i think] I don't know why more guitarist don't use the tuning pegs though. you would think with all the drop tuning going around they would be big. I mean sure EVH has that drop thing at the bridge but these pegs are much better

*end warning*

Hey how about you check out of the tone of the Electric Banjo form the Jazz band I came across.....

Frankly I found your comment pretty ignorant and if all music was made only from guitars....then music would really suck.

My whole point was to just do something different.

The sour notes are part of my playing. I like to sound dissonant sometimes. There's a lot of chromaticism.

@ Tele: I recently discovered some instruments that sound amazing (mostly from Eastern Europe and Latin America)

Without variety it would be like eating lasagna every day for the rest of your life or being committed to the same woman for the rest of your life oh.... wait that's called marriage.

well i was going to start off with a no need for personal attacks, but it turns out my post reads to be that so I'm sorry(sometimes my brain thinks ahead of it self). My real intention was to talk about the ukulele and banjo as instruments them self's and maybe get a talk on the pros and cons of other instrument as well(hence the change topic bit) I just read banjo and ukulele and my mind went off (probably about the different tunings of the various number different string banjos it always does when i hear/read banjo. I find it a really interesting instrument it's history between the types is fascinating) and I completely forgot to check to see if my post meshed so for that I apologize. I blame my bad spelling it literally took me five minuets to figure out how to spell apologize not to mention instrument (i copied and past) so i tended to forget what i'm writing in the down time. So I'm sorry for setting it up wrong

and just to put your mind to rest if you even care i can competently play the Guitar, Mandolin, Mandocello(subsequently mandola) , and when i get the flat keys finger memorized the piano. That does not mean I'm calling self good just when you hand me one and say play this tune(in limits of course no crazy Paganini stuff if you get the point) i can play em. I can fiddle with a fiddle due to the mandolin but my bowing skills are sub par at best due to not owning one and only just playing with em a couple of times. I don't think i have even touch a violoncello/viola(but want one due to love of john Cale). I can also pick out tunes on a five string banjo I played one all summer in between junior/senior year. And i was getting pretty good at the two sticks marimba, but seeing that I'm not in high school anymore i don't have access to one. And i have no real intention(see marimba) to play instruments in other categorizes(like sax or trumpet) due to the completely different skills i would need to train and i would rather not, but i do want to try the tabla but i don't know where to find a good teacher nor money/tabla to learn additive rhythm and there kick ass. So hopefully that destroys all false assumptions that i think the guitar is the only good instrument in truth i would have rather gotten a violin but my mom got me a guitar and i still think the violin is a better instrument minus the whole harmonic thing.

and i was going to wright a bit about the guitar's and banjo's harmonic difference, but I'm cutting it short. the stander 6 string (eadgbe) Guitar in each position has a range of two octaves and a perfect fourth while the four sting banjo tuned in the common open G(excluding the drone of course) only has an octave and a fourth. This excludes open position for the both or em which is unfair to the banjo cause that's where is mostly operate from but just add it up if you interested.
