This is great question. My very first intro to a song I learned was Don't Cry from G n R. But the first whole song had to be 18 and Life from Skid Row. I was 12 and was playing an Ibanez EX series with a little Crate amp. Those were the days!

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. Just the opening riff played all wrong of course. I played it using single notes starting on the E string.
