I just found this video. I dream about playing like this! The way this guy blends his classical guitar with pop music blows me away! This is the kind of playing that I know Justjeff is working so hard on and it is what I consider (my opinion only) guitar playing in it's purest form. Anyway, enjoy and feel free to post any video that inspires you as well. And by "inspire" I don't mean just some song you like. I mean playing that hits you where you live, way deep down. The essence of why you want to play, and how you want to play. Something that moves you deeply.

I MUST learn this version of the song before I get hit by a bus!

P.S. This guy's guitar has such a beautiful tone don't you think?

I'm not really sure what inspires me anymore. I get off on all sorts of musical stuff but I'm pretty much content as long as I do better than what I did yesterday.

I love this song! This is an amazing version, too. You've definitely shown me something new to learn! :D

Some of my inspirations: (I can't resist posting more than one!) :D

John Mclaughlin: when blue turns gold

Ignore the intro bit, it's the next section that grabs hold of me. Mainly for Hariprasad Chaurasia's Bansuri playing. Really effective.

Then:

Spiritual Groove by Tommy Gauthier and Antoine Dufour

Then!:

Final Fantasy X Piano Collections - To Zanarkand

Which really touches my soul and just sounds amazing. I loved learning this song and still love playing it.

Wow, wanna talk about so many greats in one thread :)

@phip
That guys sound is so much cleaner than mine, it's not fair!

Also, the guy that posted Antoine Dufour has good taste :)

But I will share with you the gem that keeps me going in playing music. His name is Erik Mongrain. His music is just so calming and relaxing, it's beautiful.

This song I started learning on my old epi, since I didn't care to tune down to a B on the low E string... it can handle those crazy tunings :)

Wow, I made this post this morning and just came home to find all these replies. What I think is wonderful is the wide variety of tastes that are represented here. All amazing songs and I'm sure there are more to come as other members log in. After each song I open my eyes, click on the next one and it is an amazing trip! Excellent choices everyone, and quite revealing too. I'm also getting introduced to artists I was not aware of so I'm very glad everyone is contributing. Thanks and keep 'em coming!

I did haha. :D Eric Mongrain is amazing! I love his music.

I can't not share this amazing piece with you guys, seriously, it's so awesome! :D

Stefano Barone - Batman - Alexander Supertramp

He also starts using an ebow on an acoustic which actually sounds pretty cool. I've never given it a try but from the way he makes it sounds I'm up for making a whole new style.

And I'm sure I've shown people this one before, but this will always stay an inspiration to me.

Andy McKee - Gates of Gnomeria

Gary Moore has a kick as vibrato that makes you really feel the music, one of the best out there.

This is brilliant. ALthough it does make me feel calm and sleepy for some reason! That's it, when I've finished exams and have three months of nothing learning this is going to be my next project!

@ deefa
Find the video you want on youtube and just to the right of it there are two strips. One says "URL" and the other says "EMBED". copy the "EMBED" text and paste it in your post.

I'm not going to say I don't feel inspired by other people's songs, but I don't like to use that inspiration derived from them directly for my own songs. When it comes to writing my own songs, I really love to dig through my memories and find the ones I can't remember why I remember. There are memories that I have of certain events in my childhood which I sort of idealize as the definitive example of something. For instance, summer, in my mind, is defined by this off-hand memory I have of standing in a farmhouse's backyard, blue sky, wind blowing, and the feeling that I could walk for miles in any direction and not meet a soul. So yeah, that's what inspires me... and books!

For me it's not about about what notes you play and how fast or slow but how much you get out of every note you play.

If you have the time, listen to this song by Dave Hole. One of my favorite blues guitarists.
