I think it's safe to say I have a hippie mentality, although I don't look like one at all. I was influenced a lot by the Grateful Dead, Punk Floyd, Hendrix... (+). I do wear deoderant though :l (-) .
I think peace and love is a great idea... (+) , but dangit, I don't have any clothes like that ^^^ yet. Fail (-) bummer

i do love music and clothes but hate there politics. socialism will never work nor has it, however im all for saving trees but to a certain extent.

I like some of the music. Floyd, Zep, etc. Although the politics are insanely overrated. Peace will not work. It'd be boring. Between the nations at least. Now with us people I do agree, a lot of people need a chill pill in a bad way. And I definetly don't have the look. lol. I smellz lovely!! lol.

hippiesville, woodstock, new york, hippiesville is a small colony of hippies living in trees unknown to the world, when entering woodstock u will see a man by a stopsign smoking, pot of course, talk to him, hell want to give you pot, thats just how we are, hell lead you into the forest, you follow the path then you come to 3 trees, red yellow and blue, there should be a dirt spot different from the rest, stand on it and wait...lol just wait lol.

Once, there was a Lilly, the Hippie. She was full of life, full of love, and colours. She had a path, she had a idealism, she had a vision. Many followed her path, inspired by her, loving her, admiring her.

But, like all things, it changed, It morphed by crowds who got lost. Lost like red, in colour spectrum. Soon Lilly was alone in the crowds, she didnt saw idealism, she didnt saw love, she only saw people, who didnt want but colours, no love, no peace.

Everywhere she looked, she only saw ruins, growing crowds, nothing more than disordered souls, souls that had no contaries, roses without thorns, people, without destination.

So she sat, on the campfire, and even that is now smoldering embers, drowned by her tears.

Socialism is working quite well in much of Scandinavia right now. It kind (okay, really) bugs me when people criticize a political or social ideology by saying it hasn't worked in the past (or any derivation thereof). How many chances have there been for us to develop these kinds of governments? In my opinion, it's quite a small number [of chances]. Definitely too small to make such a definite judgment like "they will never work."

Now, on a more personal note as opposed to my previous generalizations. I don't think free-market capitalism is going to work in a large country (such as the U.S.). It does quite well in tiny city-states, but the potential for lots of bad things happening when the scale is increased is just huge. Currently we're kind of in the "there is no other pill to take so swallow the one that made you ill" stage.

I have to disagree with Crunch. I'm not saying Socialism will never work but in bad but in a country like the us where individual freedoms are important as are state rights socialism does not quite fit. Kinda like a fat girl in skinny pants. My apologies to any fat girls

I'm a pretty conservative hippie...and in saying that being conservative or republican is not very popular right now. but if you look at texas, one of the most conservative states in the union, and then you look at the economy of Texas you'll see that were not in the economy trouble the rest of the country is. So crunch are you saying the "Texas" way would not work on a bigger regional or country scale?

I think socialism mis bad because it takes the power from the people and gives it to a central government. The power needs to go back to the people, and they can manage it on the state level. disband the federal government?

I'm saying it, 'the "Texas" way,' doesn't work, or at least, isn't working right now. I hate this generalization, but as I'm sure you know, our "economy" isn't doing well. We're going to need more regulation if we're to avoid a big crisis like this in the future. Also, I don't think having a strong federal government takes away any individual rights. Sure, if the government becomes corrupt that can happen, but it could happen at the state level too if they were to be given complete control over their people. I also hope you're joking about the federal government being "disbanded."

actually I dont even know what they discussing for...(something political things I think xD) but crisis like this is global, not just in United States. Like it is said in genesis, for every seven fat years come seven thin years. Its just a cycle that is known every knowledgeable businessman :P.

I'm speaking about it from my own perspective. I can't really claim to know a whole lot about other countries' economies when I don't live there or study them very often (I do have an economics class!). I would also like to point out that I put "economy" in quotations to show that I used the word to keep the idea simple, the problem is really more specific (sometimes broader as well) than just the "economy."

Also, I probably should have quoted EMB. He said "socialism will never work..." Really, I don't know that I support an entirely socialized system for the U.S., but we need something different than what we have. I'm kind of starting to wonder, if a country is to stay a huge world power for a long length of time, that they might need a sort of cyclical government where it undergoes revolutions as opposed to one revolution. Obviously I would hope the revolutions to be nonviolent.

Your right. An efficient state and local government does not make difficult times easier. There also not any tax benefits. You know the more the goverment needs the more they take out of my paycheck and the more difficult it is for me to eat. this does not effect the "Economy" at all.

Really i mean if you lost your job you don't get a loan to put in a pool. Sounds to me what this "stimulus" package is. an i hear a hint of a bush slam with that comment too and i could not aruge with that when looking at what he had done in the last 8 years. but come check out the rest of the state.

I got the hell out of Iowa cuz it was going down hill fast. and all my old co-workers are worried about loosing their jobs. I'm not.



What has the federal government ever done for you?

The federal government has provided me with all kinds of things. Mostly through funding, but also through defense (a military without a federal government would be a joke) among other things. Also, that was not intended to be a Bush slam. I was never big on the let's make fun of Bush because it's cool thing. I didn't agree with the man all that often, but I don't think he was evil or necessarily that bad of a president. I think he did what he could with a poor situation.

yeah that did not make any sents. my point is I don't see how you can spend your way to prosperity? in my family if i lost my job the spending would cut back not increase.

I do understand your point about the federal government and the military but do you see federal resources being used effectively? I'm an extremely thrifty person and nothing pissed me off more than wasteful spending of my tax dollars.

I foresee a future if socialism takes over that the spending would only increase. every time i hear talk about socialized health care and such i think of the book 1984.

If, here in the states, we can implement what countries like Sweden have done, I think a more socialist approach would be good. They do pay a large percentage of what they earn to the government, but they're always leading in education, human development, and they're one of the "happiest" countries on the earth.

Again, though, the size and heterogeneity of the U.S. might be a problem. Many Scandinavian countries have, for the most part, a homogeneous population, which might make their system of government function more efficiently. In the end, what I'm saying is we do have to try things before we decide they don't work.

hate to break it to you tele but we are living in 1984 the differences are ether superficial(needs to be entertaining it is a book for enjoyment after all is said and done) or just around the bend. the plus side is history has proven time and again some one out there will take a rat to the face and proletarian up raisers aren't being take out back but there voices are either being stop or drown out(internet tends to do it)

with every political spectrum there is a downside, or a resolve too extreme to follow through with. with hippies it was anarchy and worldpeace mostly. and although those resolves may never happen, at least it gave us something to live by within our own individual lives: Peace, Love,and happiness. thats what i live by. my main goal in life mentally is to be in a constant state of nirvana and tranquility. dont take life so seriously, youll never come out of it alive! so even though i wasnt born anywhere near the 60's or the 70's, i would like to say that im a hippie. And i smell bad too, so i guess i qualify!

first off you dont have to smell to be a hippy. and the hippy culture nowadays isnt all that political. its about being eco-friendly. i go to a bunch of music festivals and being eco-friendly is what its all about now. yeah back in the day it was about the government but not so much anymore. and obviously part of the hippy culture is having a good time. but in no way do you HAVE to smell bad to be a hippy.
