Hi Im new to the site. Ive been playing guitar for about a year and a half and really seriously been getting into it over the last 6 months. I can't afford lessons so everything ive learned is from reading books or just playing till i got the sound i was looking for. I am always looking for advice or other usefulk information cause there are just some things you can't figure out on your own.

As it stands i really wouldn't know how to describe where i am with my guitar playing. I know a couple basic chords that i learned from a book, and i know the basics of playing some types of music, but mostly only rhythm type parts. I acn't read music to save my life, but i can read tabs fairly well and get the jist of what it should sound like. I understand several concepts like altrenate picking and tapping, but i still need alot of practice in those areas. Things i know i need to learn are chord progressions, and some basic music theory. I want to learn to play several styles, i just find that i don't have as much time as i wish i could devote to playing so most often i just sit down and fiddle around to see what i can come up with. If i think about it later i will post some videos to youtube that you guys can watch of me just improvising.

Welcome to the forum. And good on you improvising. It's good you continue to teach yourself, I've known plenty of people who didn't bother just because they didn't have a guitar teacher. Welcome again!

Ok, good start, but there's a lot to come my friend. Try learning a new chord every day to start things off. And I think it's also about time you started to learn something which should help you to understand your guitar a little more. The Major Scale, I'm sure you've read about it in your books, but there are some lessons on this site which should help you to learn that right away. Plus if you're ever stuck, feel free to ask me any questions.
