last night i went rock climbing and cut up my fingers, so today will be the first day of not practicing in about 6 months. the tips are fine but i cant barre, and its difficult to bend the joints on my index and ring finger. any ideas of how to get better without using fingers? i was thinking i might dust off my piano and screw around with that.

train your ear, play chords online and guess what chord it is, play random notes, and tune your ear to the notes.

Not a good week for the forum..... I stabbed myself with a knife under my right thumbnail now I can't fingerpick. What that hell is it a full moon or something?
Ouch (hurts when I laugh)

At least you still have the spirt to practice. I'm annoyed at myself, I haven't played in a little while just because I've got bored of it. I sort of hope I'll snap out of it. I was doing well but now I just can't sit down and play without wanting to fiddle and go do something else.

@Heather
Sometimes the best thing you can do is take a break. Listen to music that inspires you but no matter how bad you want to don't touch your guitar. I just came off of a month long break and it did wonders for me. It did take about a week to get my fingers back in shape and my finger tips to harden back up but now I play faster, cleaner, and with more feeling than I ever have. It's hard to explain the change, like I finally got my brain out of the way and my hands just took over. (if that makes any since)

I remember when i sliced the tip of my index finger off on a meat slicer...I couldnt play for a week and i had to have it bandaged for 3 weeks...that was aweful.

Thanks les paul. I know I should be worrying about the fact I keep slacking. But I still do it. I sometimes try to make myself sit and practice, but I don't seem to last a minute at it anymore. I think I've been like this for almost a month now, that does help. I'll listen to some of my favourite songs with good guitaring I guess. That'll probebly make me want to get back into it. Now I think my problem was I was focusing too much, after a while I think it must have just felt more like a chore. Thanks again.

Ouch! How have so many of you managed to slice your fingers up? Not by playing too hardly on guitar I hope!

I gave up rock climbing when my guitar playing got serious - sorry but the two hobbies just aren't compatible!
