So i need some new strings for both my electric and electro acoustic guitars. Any suggestions for the strings i should get? I wanna get a few packs as i have a gig coming up ,so i don't think i want to get £10 sets. Sizes and makes will be handy!

Ok next, which slide shall i get. This will be my first slide so nothing to complicated :D

O and finally, i got my first gig coming up. Any advice? How long before the gig should i change my strings?

Thanks

Strings and slides are all personal preference for tone. I'm not a fan of either fender or Gibson strings. Ernie balls are nice, I really like elixir's too they last along time and give you that new string sound for a long time.

I can't really help you out on the gig advice or the acoustic guitar, but as for the electric guitar strings, my personal taste that I have "acquired" is for the GHS Boomers 10 Gauge, they only cost $5 too.(sorry I don't know the conversion!) The Boomers tend to sound bright, and thats why I like them, they are just awesome for my style of play and sound great, I usually only change mine after about 3 months or so. As a side note the last two sets of strings I put on didn't rust really at all, just something to look for, but its really just like telecrater said, its all a personal preference for strings and sounds.

By the way, what electric guitar do you use?

Thanks for the answers guys.

Yh so im using a PRS se Singlecut :D love it.

I think im going to get the ernie's these seem to be a good prices and lots of people like em.

As for my other questions... Slides?? It looks like my going to get a glass one. Any ideas on good deals or makes?

And finally, changing my strings before my first gig. How long before should i change em. I dont want them going out of tune but i dont want them sounding dull on stage.

Cheers

Glass slides tend to have a cleaner, smoother sound than metal ones, but if you're playing proper blues-type stuff a metal slide is far more authentic.

What is Proper Blues Type stuff?

I gave up on glass slides after my son (who was 2 at the time) shatter it and it became a millions tiny shards of glass.

I'm thinking like dirty blues, delta-type stuff. I know SRV used metal slides but Satriani uses glass, if that helps? Sorry, shoulda been more specific!
