Don't you guys get bored of listening to the same style all the time? I love listening to it, but I also love listening to other genres too.

I just listened to the new lamb of God album "Wrath" and it is freaking awesome! Also, Mr. Big and Porcupine Tree have been in my head lately...and for Jazz's sake I've also been listening to a lot of Bela Fleck, Corner Stone Cues and Yellow Jackets as of late.

'Bodom Alexi Laiho and Petri Lindroos are really good, but i don't like Corey Taylor much. Some vocals do sound like crap; Adam Darski Behemoth vocal is one of them.
I find some brutal bands funny, dunno why lol like cannibal corpse try reading the lyrics too.
'Jazzy we'll yes and no. At first i started listning to Nu metal then heavy then got bored then death metal(brutal,vikiing,melodic..) again got bored now listening to metalcore and deathcore but along i still listen to other genres. So you can keep listening to different kinds of metal music and not get bored.. or maybe u'll still get bored lol.

Nah, I would still class any form of metal as metal. I mean like other genres completely away from distortion or something. Plus I also think it's a great challenge to compose something in a different genre to what you're used to. Creates a versatile musician and you can gain respect from many.

I listen all kinds of music, but what comes to metal it vary, I have seasons when I listen one month or so of one band, if I find it interesting. At these days Im more and more to Gothic Metal and more athmospheristic metal...

Listened After Forever and Lacuna Coil lately and After forever was very interesting one...I was crushed when they broke up.

1.Sylosis (check these f@ckers out!!)
2.All That Remains
3.Psycroptic
4.Nevermore
5.INFLAMES
6.Children of Bodom
7.Kataklysm
Not in any order
Many many more

As for genres of metal..... it all depends on what you want... I love Mudvayne and Inflames.... but I wouldnt group them together.
Too many things to group bands .....Guitar Solos, Growls, Screams, Blast beats, Break downs, etc, etc....
Problem is there are so many original bands now that you would pretty much have to create a new genre for each one.
When I say I listen to Metal people are always like.....Oh yeah Ozzy.... Then Im like.....Nope... Hahahaha.... A little heavier.

I guess if I had to choose it'd be Iron Maiden. But then again I don't know many metal musicians...at all really! I'm happier listening to country, jazz and a bit of Boroque now and then. Not that big on metal.

Some of these sound interesting though, never heard of many of them before. Might be worth checking out I supppose.

I really like Alexi Laiho's singing. His screaming is not extreme and it actually has some lyrics I could understand.

I have to admit I really cant get into a lot on newer metal. It just doesent sound like the same type of music anymore.

I like the old stuff. Although my current band has screaming and drop C# tuning, I would really love to play some Thrash Metal. Metal is just not a form of music, its and attitude.

I also like a lot of other types of music, not because I get tired of Metal, because I enjoy music in general.

Truth be told I listen to

Megadeth
Saxon
Iron Maiden
Children of Bodom
Metallica (sometimes)
Venom (sometimes it gets too evil for me)LOL
Slayer

I also listen to many other non Metal stuff like Classical!

Andres Segovia Rocks!!!!!

'6StringEvil have you ever listened to a song called "Principle Hero" for Kalmah, it sounds like an ice-cream truck. It's kinda odd their genre is melodic death metal but the vocal sounds more like black metal. You seem more of a heavy-metal-dude, but Nevermore are one of my favorites.

I just had a brilliant idea... next time you all go to a metal fest/gig, bring glow sticks! Oh yes, truly an epic contradiction.

What kind of glow sticks are we talking about here Jazz? Cause i dont think the standard green ones will fit, we may need to purchase either baby blue or pink ones.

I'm kind of in late on this one, but I'll give 'er a go anyway.

I'm really liking Opeth right now (really, for the past several years). I think they take what makes metal metal and distill it into something recognizable while gloriously avoiding the cliché.

I've always been a Metallica fan, their new album not sucking helped me get back into them more recently. Just some good musicians who write (generally) very good songs.

After those two I'm into stuff that might not necessarily be called metal. Bands like Tool, The Mars Volta (I don't know what to call them), and Rage Against the Machine. They all have definite metal elements, but are really something else entirely at the same time. However, in the end, who cares what we call them? Metal, it's only a word.

p.s. Folk music is... fat people. Everyone knows I'm not a folk singer.

Hopefully someone recognizes that.

yeah man. i also like Opeth very much. Though their songs are very long, their songs have various parts in them. The Opeth songs feel like some Gothic story, they have so many varying emotions in their music.

@Guitarslinger
How could i forget Trivium and Amon Amarth !
Have you heard Fate of Norns? My personal favorite.

6StringEvil: I have listened to Still Life dozens of times from start to finish. The great story (it's a concept album) behind the impeccably written and played music makes it even more enjoyable. More enjoyable for me, at least.

"Selling out" is a ridiculous concept. What obligation does Metallica have to anyone to continue making their music in a certain way? They did what they thought would be best for them, which is all we can expect of them. It's just like Bob Dylan going electric, thus pissing off people who saw him has a folk artist. What right did these people have to expect a certain style of song from him?

They sold out, as they've said themselves, they sold out every night.

yeah u cant accuse 'tallica of "selling out". I mean, thats absurd. They did what they thought would be the best way to broadcast their music to a greater mass. Some liked it, some didnt.
My favorite 'Tallica album is the Black album.

Metallica did what they wanted to do, apparently Kirk had been studying blues for years, and he was able to incorporate it into Metallica's music, and are you or anyone else going to say "wait a minute Kirk, you're not allowed to play the music you love because it's not 100% metal"?

If Metallica were still writing Ride the Lightning-style songs in the 90s people would moan because they hadn't evolved. Music has to change to survive, imagine if Hendrix hadn't progressed past playing 12 bar blues, or Pantera were still a glam metal band.
