A kid whom used to go to school with me was at the store with his friend getting cables for his friend's guitar. We are only in different towns that border eachother. He's "Supposedly" gotten into some ***. Well, when my guitar teacher was ringing him up, I was a little pissed that day so I was cocky and started wailing insanely. IT was great. Now he wants to form a band, but doesn't know where. I have and idea of where to do it myself. Take it or leave it. I want advice pretty fast so just either shoot me up on this thread, or [Preferably] drop me a line on Gmail.

i am kinda confused about what advice you are asking for? do you want advice on if you should start a band with him? or advice on where you should start it?

well comin from someone that doesnt really get around much the chance to join a band would be hard to turn down.

but you need to weigh the pros and cons.

pros:
get your name out
give you the experience of being in a formal or semi formal band
working with other people and making contacts

cons:
this **** could it possible have a negative effect on you that would smear your name or burn down bridges that you might later need to use?

that is the real question since we dont know what all **** entails what is the worst case that can from associating with this guy?
and does that possibility outweigh the possible benefits

Depending on the extent of his problems: If it's drinking, marijuana, even some cocaine use, I would still see if it works. If the kid is a douche or sucks, no (duh). If they're into heavier stuff (heroin, meth), you would definitely have to weigh your moral/legal values with the positive gains you would receive.

Pretty much agree with crunch, thing is how he act. Nobody stand long for friggin absurd mayhem very long if he/she is not wacky him/herself.

Well, and whatcomes to bad name... well care *** about that. as long you dont take a part of it, you never caught or busted, you always are clean. What others think... who cares. Its rock n roll xD.

I sent you my advice/input via email.

To summarize: A band is a relationship - don't let it fall into a pattern that allows bad behavior to cause the relationship to stumble.

Trust that people will do their best but plan that things will go awry.

It's the start of a relationship that's bound to fail. If you jump into something that's already got problems then it's just going to bring you down. Subconsiously, by the time you do actually get away from him, you'll be unsure of what's actually normal.

I only speak from observations. But like Crunch said, it depends on what kind of problems.

Well if he's a trouble causer I strongly advise you don't go with him. Plus if you don't want to play with him, don't. Whenever you want to form a band (now or later) make sure you try it out with some good people you can get along with, otherwise it's not worth it.

Hope it helps.

At the grand old age of 12! Sounds like you've got yourself some problems there yourself buddy!

Seriously though, as Jazz, Heather and Crunch said, it'll could do more bad than good. It might not be as simple as walking away if he knows where you live, etc.

if you are twelve and he is around the same age, the bad *** he is in to is probably porn pot or beer, or minor theft. All of which can be avoided if you want to. Try it out, if they start pressuring you to do stuff you dont want to leave. Also if the kids a douche, leave, unless he is incredible, then bear with it and learn.

Could you maybe give us an example of what this *** is? Being as young as you are, I can't imagine it being horrible. Although I do remember that age, if you associated yourself with a "bad seed" you yourself was considered a "bad seed". As long as you keep a good head on your shoulders and don't let anyone persuade you into doing something you don't want to do, you should be fine.

My god. Thank you all!!!

Okay. I'll Begin.

Pat - Haha. No. Getting caight in school for a supposed pot bust DOES though. THATS what happened.
Saddest part is though, we like the same style of music, and he's the best drummer I've ever heard [locally]. Nobody knows if he REALLY got busted [I'm pretty sure he didn't from what I've heard]. But anyways, I can handle my own. Believe me. And no, he's not a "douche" lol.

@ BHS - He's actually like two feet shorter than me so coming to my house over a grudge definetly wouldn't give anyone but me an advantage. Second of all, I've known who he was since Kindergarted. Third, I'M 13!!!!! lol.

@ Emp - I absolutely love the way you put that haha. Especially the "To do something this insane, you have to be a little insane yourself". So true.

And overrall, theres more pros than cons from what I see so I'm going for it. THANKS EVERYONE!!

Just the simple things like having a lighter aren't likely to be the same guys. And I'm sorry to have to say this but I think encourageing him to hang ot with this guy isn't a good thing at all when I'm sure it's worse than having a lighter on you. Especially if he is into what Meister said (sorry to sound like I'm critisizing) but that's not worth a try, particularly if you're a twelve year old.

Last time I'll say this Ozz, but if you don't like this guy don't bother with him. That's form a bad band, especially if it'd be a first time experiance in one.

(sorry, computer was slow)

And I do like him. He's always been pretty cool.

[EDIT] - I meant I like him as a friend. Which is in a NON *** way. Thank you.

Around you? Is he usually a nice guy or just towards certian people like you? If he's usually acting like a jerk I personally wouldn't bother with him. But again it's your pick.

My "band" used to play in a shed (100x60 or so, 40-50 feet high) on a farm half a mile out of town. There was this little loft thing about 7 feet from the ceiling. It was actually so small we could only fit the drums up there and had to run cables to amplifiers on the ground, which ended up making a really cool effect, but each hit on a drum was like a bomb going off in your head. We didn't really make it better when we switched to a basement either, but they were "cool" places I suppose.
