I am looking on buying a new amp in the next month, been looking around for them and figured I should post here. I want quality but not too pricey, looking to pay in the range of 200 for one, and what I would like in it is versatility, but maybe with a better clean tone than distortion. Playing music like jazz, blues, rock, what do you guys think.

The perfect amp for you would be a fender super champ xd. trust me. it is, in my opinion, the best amp that i ever played and i play the exact same genres as you. try one if you get a chance.

yeah I was looking at the one earlier however, for only 20 bucks more you can buy this one:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Frontman-212R-100W-2x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=481601

which looks pretty nice, and bodom I would like a smaller amp, just for playing in the house with myself or someone else.

Yeah guys, he just wants to play with himself!!!! lol. j/k.

Try Randall. I think it'd probably be good for you. If you do though get like a 30 or more watt amp. I had a ten [or fifteen, I forget] when I first started playing. It sounded like **. Randall has pretty good clean channels, and distortion....haha. Just listen to early Pantera. You'll know what I mean dude.

Looks pretty sweet. For jazz type stuff though, I'd go with a Fender. My guitar teacher has a jazz band, and he uses a Fender for it. Sounds great.

look into the roland cube amps there the best in your price range in my opinion.
i don't like the new fender champs i heard a old that was good but it may have been modded(didn't talk to the guy just heard him)
and if you can find a used fender in good shape like emb said go for it but i'm not a fan of fender's lower class amp like the frontman series

i havnt heard much jazz, but i think the roland cubes have too much distortion for that kind of music, you can turn it down, but then it doesnt sound as clear. Rivera just came out with a jazz amp. maybe check one of those out.

your looking at the wrong cube it's gots a jc bit right in it. i don't really like it either but i don't like any 200 amp that's not modded(I'm not being a snobby **** all my amps are modded). but like i
said before IF you can find a good-shaped used fender go for it.

Cube amps are awesome, thats currently what I'm using. the distorted tones leave a little to be desired but the the cleans are excellent for the price you pay, plus they WONT BREAK! recently i got orders to go to germany, so i threw my little roland in my duffle and checked it at the airport. got it in germany good as new. not only that but my amp spent two days under a greyhound bus and survived! they're certainly tough, rockin little buggers.

BUT, if you want something with way better clean tones, and crisp rocky distortion, check out carvin solid state amps. for 250 bucks you can buy a 100 watt amp, with a channel for clean tones and a channel for clean and dirty tones. they arent really in the mainstream market but check them out at carvinguitars.com

thanks for all the input, I am going to save up some extra money and get a fender deville, probably the 212 model as seen here,

make sure you at least play it before you buy it though. Ive played some pretty crappy fenders before. even though they make the best amps!
