well heres the thing of skynyrds sound, ther mids were high, they used the frowny face eq, high mids lower lows and highs. still ther highs were higher. in this song on this recording, allen collins who used marshalls would use a pure sound. hed just hook his sound right into a marshall, no distortion i believe hed just crank it and for ryth hed turn down his volume on his guitar, remember this is played with slide so it sounds different. there is very little sustain in his stuff which is why i think he doesnt use any distortion pedals. in the 2nd solo, rosssington or collins whosever solo tht is, i think its collins, turns his rythm pickup on. the first solo is definate collins, his tone, sound and playing.

That sounds like 100% tube overdrive with high mids and a Humbucker equipped guitar probably a LP.

ye collins used a explorer, gaines used a fender and rossington used a gibon, i think both solos are collins on this, i dont even think he used an overdrive, just cranked the ** outta his 1959 slp.
