you shouldnt say that being a groupie lots of times means openign for a band. but being a groupie pays and gets you experience, and teachings from people that are better than you, i've been a roadie a couple of times for a local band. i learned how to play i am the walrus and a killer solo, its all just experience.

rofl. I meant the groupies that play a different song with the band.....the horizontal bop. Your thinking of roadies dude.

Haha, Elliott, Dude, this is an amazing opportuinty! Congrats! Are you ready? What songs will you play? I love your directions, I'll just get off the bus on Long Island and wander the streets asking complete strangers "have you seen Elliott"? Bring someone to take pictures. When is this all going to happen?

Wish I could, it sounds like it'll be real fun. You're lucky! I'd like to go but I haven't been on a holiday anywhere in over 6 years, doubt that'll change now. But have fun over there!

Congrats man, that'll be a great experience, but make sure you practice like crazy for it so you can match their skill. Then they might want you to play with them! (Happened before)

Oh noes!!

I wanted you to hook me up wit Trent Reznor. :( I was gonna convince him to put ALL of the NIN albums up for free download off of his website. :P

EDIT: Hehe, I'm reading the comments of Youtube videos by the screamo band you mentioned, Ice 9 Kills, and it's just a bunch of emo kids dedicating the song to their ex-girlfriends. There's a lot of this going on:

" :'( :'( :'( OMG i M1z u s0 mucH, plz come b4ck 2 m3 :'( :'( :'( "

And if the fans heckle you since you aren't screamo music, you can do some Axl Rose thing and go in the stands after them. :P

Haha I thought it was a little bit too good to be true! Edited the topic title for you.

In a way though, this could be a better experience. Trent Reznor would probably get in his private jet at the end of the show and go home, but these guys might hang around for you to talk to.

lol. Well that sucks man. But like someone above me said, you gotta start somewhere. And yeah, whatever the little screamo kids do to you, just shove it intheir face ten times worse. Don't let a bunch of tone deaf screamo fans get you down. lol.

Ozz

PS - Good luck at the gig anyway. Record it?

i was writng a ver long thing to motivate you, but when i pressed post, th internet was gone, so here it is resumed: they aint good, its achance for you to be heard, give a better show than them, play well known songs, easy to keep track of e. summer of 69, or knockin on heavns door, easy to learn lyrics for people to sing while playing... you can give a better show... show off

Elliot did say Nine Inch Nails, but he got it wrong!

Going back to what soy.el.che said, don't play too many covers, otherwise you'd gain a reputation as a band who can only play other people's songs.

When you finish it, post the live version of it. Mouth of to, stage raps DEFINETLY get people's attention [just don't talk ** about any other bands on your first show--duh]. Get the singer to talk to the crowd. Word of advice from Iron Maiden - "When you're onstage, you can't be subtle, you have to kind of inflate your ego, do things big, so that the people in the back feel like they're front row sitted". Not the exact words, but its the gist of it.

What I meant was to be as charismatic as can be man. Look up David Lee Roth's interviews and live stuff. Hes the master in my opinion. Also, be original or unique. Make something that people will know you by.....actually, don't. They'll probably know you by "Those guys who blew the screamo punks out of the water" lol.
