Hi gang,
I was reading an article this morning and thought I'd pass on these words of wisdom since they would seem to apply to learning and playing guitar as much as anything else in life.
The article was about an author named Malcolm Gladwell.
This is what he has to say about success........

GLADWELL'S FIVE STEPS TO SUCCESS
1) Find meaning and inspiration in your work.
2) Work hard.
3) Discover the relationship between effort and reward.
4) Seek out complex work to avoid boredom and repetition.
5) Be autonomous and control your own destiny as much as possible.

An interesting quote about the suceess of the Beatles.
"Talented? Absolutely. But the Beatles also simply put in more hours than anyone else."

Interesting stuff.

Too true. I love it! Effort and Reward, soooo many people don't understand this! Glad you posted this!

It links to that quote I have on my profile;

"The toughest thing about success is, you've got to keep on being a success. Talent is only a starting point in business. You've got to keep working that talent." - Irving Berlin

Hmm, I'll remember that for my AS levels in the summer, and then Further Maths modules next year. Especially the "Seek out complex work to avoid boredom and repetition." shouldn't be too hard to find.

Still, it is very true. I will tattoo it on my arm for uses in exam situations!
