Ok guy, gal and those who aren't sure....

So we had the best disc's of 2008 a while back, so how about your biggest disappointment over the last year. Let's try and keep it about music.

I'm going to go with the New GNR albums was a let down, Not real crazy about the New Beck either.

Anyone else?

I would have to say 2008 , musicly, was pretty flat. I did not like any of the new albums. I'd say the GNR album was the worst though only because it was so highly annticipated.

I stayed well clear of Chinese Democracy after I listened to a bit on myspace.

For me, the biggest disappointment was Metallica's new album. Not the music (that was very good in my opinion and many critics'), but the sound quality was shocking! It's something that could have easily been averted, and apparently the guitar hero version of the album is fine. But no, Metallica fans are stuck with an inferior product.

Another disappointment was the news that RHCP are to go on a break for two years. I understand that they've got to do what they've got to do though, and I hope that they get back to recording and touring afterwards.

This is what I have read in an interview with Kirk Hammet about the sound quality of Death Magnetic:

"Well, it's like this: There are people who just expect perfection from us. And I totally get that. And when it falls short of their standards of perfection, they're going to complain. And I totally get that, too. I do hear a bit of clipping here and there. It was more a Rick Rubin [producer] sort of decision rather than the band decision, because he thought it made it sound a little bit more lively and dynamic, and we kinda gave him the benefit of the doubt on that. And you know, to me, when I crank the album when I'm driving, it's not an issue for me. But then again — my ears are kinda fried, too, bro."

This is where I got the interview from: Clicky

They (the producers) tried to make it louder so it would sound heavier, but you can only get so loud on a CD before the loudest parts of the waveforms are cut off (known as "clipping"), leaving the loudest parts of the album as just fuzz and hiss.

This is what My Apocalypse "looks" like on the album (above) and on the GHIII version.

It is loud, but I don't hear anything bad. None of this clipping atleast. But thats just me.

As for Chi Dem, it was really good. It didn't suck. But it also wasn't worth waiting fourteen years. I actually thought the whole band broke up until about a year and a half ago so I didn't really have to wait that long =p.

All that remains' new album massively disappointed me, there's one song I like on there but thats it, I guess its not easy to follow up an album like The Fall of Ideals... If you would have told me a year ago that I'd have the new metallica on my ipod, but not the new all that remains I would have laughed.

Also the new Human Abstract. I only heard one of their new songs, and to me it sounded like they collectively decided that they want to be Avenged Sevenfold. They were one of my fav melo-death bands too. F-

You can't hear it clearly all the way through the album, it's much worst in certain bits. Listen to the last minute of "The Day That Never Comes". You can here it there really strongly, especially when the guitar is playing the lower chords.

I was thinking earlier, maybe they messed it up on purpose, because other than that it's a really strong album, which they wouldn't be able to emulate in a few years time perhaps.

Either way, the album (in places) sounds utter trash!

That is really a general problem with the music industry in general. I read an article about it where they showcased some major label CD's since the creation of CD's and in general you see this in almost all major label recordings.

CD's have huge bandwidth available if it's used correctly, but now they just make it louder.

I have the solution....let's bring back Tape, good old casette tapes, and all the warping and magnetic issues. oh...the memories.

Rock on!!!!
