Hand Tape?

Why do I see guitarists with tape around there picking hand. I have seen Kirk Hammet and afew others with it.

Yeah, I've seen him with tape as well. I think it's just to prevent the strings rubbing his hand.

Although that doesn't seem very rock n roll!

Why would it matter if the strings rub his hand? (taped or not taped) Is it to prevent the excess noise that are hands make against the strings?

when you palm mute a lot a play very fast the strings will eventually wear down on your hand. i personally think you should change your technique if you have this problem.

i heard that it stops the sweat from running onto the strings, idk if its true, or where i read it.

I found why, and I was right. It's to stop him injuring his hand over the course of a tour.

Wow, another new thing to hear and learn about. I should probebly do that, not that I'd hurt myself playing, but yesturday I somehow cut most of my right fingertips and my thumb up opening a can of fruit. Hurts like heck.
