I really like this song but have no idea what it's about or what they are trying to get across in the song, it's kinda hard to get your head around it. If you have never heard it check it out on you tube. What's your interpretation?

A random topic I know but I'm listening to it right now and thought I would get some input. I know Phip will have an answer for me.

this is my favourite beatles song. john wrote it when he was trippign on acid. the song's up and down rythm is inspired by police sirons lennon heard.

as far as the actual lyrics remember he was on acid, but i think by eggmen he was talking about the people of liverpool, and the walrus he later said was paul, then he said it was him. so... its probably just randomniss

It has a really bizarre, lo-tech music video. People jumping around in Walrus costumes! Apparently a teacher at Lennon's old school was having students analyse The Beatles' lyrics, and so he tried to make them as abstract and confusing as possible!

Yes, as I know BHS is right, it was to tease that school teacher and students.

patleh, btw there is only two lines from "Lennons trip", others he filled later...with (nonsense if you ask me), song itself is a quite nice compose.

Im not a huge fan of Beatles, but one thing I admire in their work is their melodies. Its same that if you play them by Piano, guitar, flute, organ, saxophone, flute or whatelse...they always sound like beatles and is recocnizable...

btw...reportedly, after recording the song, Lennon smiled to producer George Martin and said, "There, let those buggers figure that one out."

Here are the lyrics

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

(this verse is a pro war verse...yes PRO war! Gun's shooting pig or maybe it's about slaughterhouses)

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

(This verse is about corporate American. not much has changed huh, no matter if it Kurt Cobain with the "corporate magazines still suck" shirt or mr lennon)

Mister city policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like lucy in the sky, see how they run.
I'm crying, i'm crying.
I'm crying, i'm crying.

(again with the corporate theme, the police men are a metaphor for robots.......like bender from futurama....dumb stupid robots. The robots are mindless people)

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

(this is about sex and how it can be fun but really does not fit in with the song unless it's how corporations use sex to sell crap to the mindless robots...)

Sitting in an english garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the english rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.

(oh I think someone misses England and the rain)

Expert textpert choking smokers,
Don't you thing the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty,
See how they snied.
I'm crying.

(again to the pigs and war and how they are all going to die. ALso notice how the mindless robots are not pigs.)

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the eiffel tower.
Elementary penguin singing hari krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking edgar allan poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.
Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob g'goo.

(this verse is how corporations will kill all artistic talent by kicking Poe because the pigs are dying and the mindless robots are not going to do anything about it)

In the end i think the song is just about the evil that large business do, including starting a war. but it could also be just a big pile of dung written by some have witted stoned hippy what do i know?
