look up sleepwalk (instrumental) it's by Santo and Johnny but the ventures do it better plus they play guitar. if that is the sound you like

Hamonic minor followed by the diminished, nice one. You're more confident with the higher strings, then once it gets half way you're more focused on the scale position than seeing anything else, try and work outside them if you can.

A way to do this is by learning the major scale and modes, play the major scale downwards, then slide and play the dorian back up, slide, play the phrygian down, slide and so on. Keep doing this and it should help you to see where you're going a lot easier than before.
