Do you understand the meaning of faith? It's the substance of things unseen.

This world has truly lost it's faith. People gotta see everything with there own two eyes to believe in it. Very sad, indeed.

I don't see why it's so hard to take a leap of faith now.

EMB is absolutely right about endorphins. They've been stopping my cancer from getting worse for the past 16 months (which is a damn sight more than my oncologist OR praying did for me!)

@ Ozzfan,
First, I'm sorry to hear about your aunt, and how this is affecting you and the rest of your family.
There can be several reasons for depression and neither you or I are qualified to diagnose her. She needs a professional to get a grip on what the root cause is for her depression, then some positive action can be taken. Doing nothing is a recipee for disaster, but she needs to "want" to change her condition. Your job is to support her and "be there" which you are doing wonderfully! Keep in mind that this is something that is out of your control, so if the worse happens it will NOT be your fault. Even if things "calm down" the problem has not gone away, so encourage her and her closest family members to seek help. start with the family doctor and clergy(if she is a woman of faith) and go from there.
I've been there and I can assure you there is hope!
Your friend,
Steve

You're poor aunt. Nobody deserves somebody else delibratly trying to upset them by summerising them negatively up at once like that. I do like Jazz's song idea. In the mean time, just get determined to see her, calm her down. The best thing I see to do personally is let her know that if she killed herself off early (if there's a deccent point in a conversation to bring that up though, I've not seen the ituation for myself so I can't say too much)if she did do that anyway, she'd really hurt you and the family. Tell her that'd be you're only regret she'd had ever done.

Best of luck confronting her. See her as soon as you can, I know what it's like, my sister's even wanted to do that so many times when she moved away from home, it's a terrifieing experiance when they cut them selves off in this way.

ok man...the only one who can safe her is herself, but her relatives can help...i think ur family should spend sometime with her...not talking about her problems but about the good old times...when she was happy(with or without her bf), show her that life's worth for living for certain kind of persons and things that doesnt matter what would be always nicer than bad things...u may play guitar for her even if u just make a couple of chords i know she will feel really better...show her that life is amazing and it doesnt worth to be down or death...tell her "LIFE IS JUST AMAZING"

@Ozz, don't worry about it. It's hard to write a song with such reasons, I've done the same. Lead your mind away from it for a bit, think of past memories, link them to hopeful future memories and hopefully from there you'll be able to spill out your emotions.

Thanks everyone. And @ EMB that thing about chemicals was quite interesting. And yes she is very religius actually and hopefully, that will help her if she knows that suicide is sin. @ Phip - man thanks. Thats really all I can think of. Actually, to everyone. Thank you for giving me some hope that her condition will improve and ideas of ways to help her.

Much love and thanks,
Jake

I don't wish for a further argument, and will say only this on faith: How do you know your prayers have been "answered?" You don't. There is no possible way. I do not attempt to refute the existence of a supreme being, but I think it is quite obvious that this being, if it exists, is not interested in our daily lives. How many trillions upon trillions of prayers have gone unanswered in the whole of human history?

Every prayer gets answered, but the answer is not always yes.

They pretend....most of them. You rarely see a troll with anything to back them up except snide remarks and insults. They don't scare me. You just have to learn their game and beat them at it.
And @ Brody - thats why I posted this here is cos' everyone here can relate somehow and there is nothing but help. No trolls at all.

Yeah, I wouldn't dream of posting something like this on UG. Everybody here is pretty chill, no matter our differences.

I wouldn't say everyone is like that. I asked some guys on there about speakers and they were pretty helpful. When I'm on there, I usually stick to acoustic section or amps section. The only problem is that people bandwagon everything: ie: "ALL LINE 6 SUX!", or "YOU DON'T NEED A HALFSTACK YOU POSER! GET A COMBO!", etc. But their general chat section ("The Pit" is what they call it)... good lord. Their only responses are: "Cum Blood", "Rape", or some pokemon references. There's seriously people on there who don't play guitar.

For gear questions I like to go to GuitarGeek forum since there's a lot of people who know a ton about gear. It's smaller than UG so there's hardly any trolls, but there is still a fairly regular flow of people. It's maybe a little bigger than this site.

AGC is my favorite though, especially for technique or general music questions. I'm on here the most too. Plus it's super chill out :P

Sad? Not what I would have said. Any step away from superstition towards reason and logic would generally be viewed, by myself at least, to be a step in the "right" direction. Not that I think the "see it with my own two eyes" philosophy is correct (who ever did?), but people should set some standards as to what they choose to believe out of what they hear, see, read, etc.

Superstition? lol.

You mean to tell me that with all of the crazy stuff that makes up this universe, you don't think it's possible that there is someone higher than us?

And I wasn't even talking about God when I said that people have lost their faith. But, if you wish to see it like that, go ahead.

Remember, Faith is the substance of things hoped for. The things unseen. Just because you don't see doesn't mean it's not real.

I never said anything about "God," nor did I make any statement about a higher being not existing. Just because there is the possibility that the unknown exists (well duh) doesn't mean we should simply accept it (what are we accepting really?-something we made up). We should continue to search for answers instead of allowing our imaginations to create them.

And remember, just because you don't see something, but want it to be, doesn't mean it is real.

That's just, like, your opinion, man.
