I've decided to take up the project of building a new guitar. I'm going to get the neck and the body premade, but I'm going to put everything together myself. I was just wondering if anyone else has done this, any can give me any tips.

Essentially, you're just putting new pickups and such in?

well, sort of, but no. im getting all the hardware and putting it in myself. the necks going to have the truss rod and the frets/fretboard already installed, but tuners im installing myself. with the body im installing the bridge and all that myself, and then putting the body and neck together.

im actually building the guitar, just not doing the woodwork, other then a few bores to install the mechanics.

Cool, good luck with this project =]
Hopefully soon me and my step-dad are going to build a guitar only part shop brought will by the neck and fretboard and the un-installed electronics.
So well be building the body from a wooden slab, installing all the electronics/bridge/tuners/controls/pickguard and painting it ourselves...

I have just finished my own custom spray job on a guitar body. Once the lacquer has cured I can sand and buff it and then start to put it back together. Having built several guitars in the past I can tell you to get yourself a good book on guitar wiring and electronics - let me tell you from experience, one wrongly soldered connection can both sting and plunge the whole house into darkness!
