Nice poll hehe,

I didn't actually, here's what happened:

My friend (aka jasonmac) was playing it for years and I thought it looked really cool, and I always wanted to play guitar, and after a couple of years of knowing him I picked up the guitar and started playing too, now I can't stop.

The moral is; I picked it up cause I wanted to, it looked cool, and I love it. Music is a passion of mine.

If I would use some instrument for getting chicks, it would be saxophone rather than guitar. Well anyway, ill picked it just because I listened song from Carlos Santana named Corazon Espinada.

But ive chose rock to get chicks of my style ^_^

No, actually when I meet a girl, I avoid talking about my guitars and when she comes over to my apartment and sees my 3 guitars, I'll usually say something like: "No sorry, can't play, just thought it'd be good wall art."

I play for three reasons:
1. I love music
2. It helps me relax
3. I'm all about difficult accomplishments. Same reason I read War and Peace.

I started playing because I really liked how John Frusciante and Jimmy Page sounded. I did, however, realize the romantic potential of the instrument during my freshman (I think) year in high school. I was discussing some sort of abstract tuning with the music teacher who was supervising my study hall. This smokin' hot senior girl who was in the general vicinity then asked me if I played guitar. I thought of a sarcastic "No, I just made all that up" comment, but actually said "Yes, I do." She then proceeded to explain to me how she thought that was sexy. I was sold from there on!

I didn't. I started because I saw someone on TV playing and I thought it was really cool. I don't remember who it was though. :-/

But that was when I was younger, like 8 or 9. I never practiced though, so after about 3 years of getting absolutely nowhere, I quit.

I recently started again, not to get chicks, but because I saw some people at school playing and they were really good, and I wanted to be able to play like them. I also saw that my cousin was playing a lot and getting really good, and I wanted to be able to jam with him.

So I brought out my old gear and started practicing again, and now I've probably learned more in 6 months than I learned in my first 3 years.

i used to play drums for about 5 years and then my sister got a guitar for her birthday and she taught me a few chords and i was hooked. haha, she shouldn't of done that cause now im heaps better than her.

good idea though, i have noticed more chicks talk to you if you play an instrument.

No, I just love music. Picking an instrument up because of the chicks is stupid, and you might as well be a Jonas brother.

Same here BBT, if you're gonna do something do it for yourself, not others.

And Skold,
It's funny, and it's true, we all know they have NO talent whatsoever.

I actually liked rock music since I was about 6 or 7 and I wanted to be a drummer.
Then I realized there was more to guitar than I had previously thought.
When I heard Carlos Santana I was almost sure I wanted to play.

When I realized everyone knew at least one single note passage in middle school I decided to pick up a guitar and learn some chords.

Sure a guitar helps to get a girls attention. Guitars and girls go hand in hand, literally.

I'm with Pat. I only know of like three girls who like anything but pop and country. Besides, it only made me more popular with a bunch of preps. Some girls but none that serious. My ass is still too ugly lol. And as EMB will probly tell you also, I picked up guitar after hearing Randy Rhoads. My mum bought me Blizzard of Ozz and that night I told her I wanted to play guitar.

Ermm, no! :P

If it helps, I don't like a guy just because he can play a guitar. Having that be the only reason to like someone seems pathetic to me personally.

haha i started playing because my cousin played guitar and toured with buddy guy at the time. also, my aunt had given me a video tape of stevie ray vaughan. i think growing up watching him would inspire anybody to play guitar.

I can say that the guitar does attract the chicks.

Every time I pick my guitar up my wife comes in and wants to talk!

It also attracts my kids and uninvited relatives!!!

not really. i just always wanted to have to do somethin with music, n then i found this free guitar class, so i bought one..
besides ive never had a gf that liked rock, or music where the guitar takes an important role, all have been mainstream girls, and hot. i almost always manage to find the bright side in a person, so i believe i can get along with anyone. I dont need to play guitar for chicks and guitar doesnt take a big role on my relationships with girls.
