can u mix just any scale together to make a solo or is there a patern for it because im stumped really... but this is probably a dumb qestion but like i said i really dont have a clue

For the most part metal fits in with rock, but because of the increased distortion more can be gotten away with.

If you are playing over a chord progression that is minor based with the seven voice you can combine the blues minor penatonic and the minor scale it has a nice sound.


i.e.

am7 dm7 am7 am7
dm7 dm7 am7 am7
em7 dm7 am7 em7

combine the A minor scale with the A minor blues scale

..dadio I think he just meant in general. For the most part, to my knowledge, metal uses a lot of chromatic solos, and arpeggios and nifty stuff like that. Honestly I would take it back to the blues to get an understanding as to how it all works.
