It's not illegal if it's used for personal use (I'm assuming).

Telecrater has a case my friends actually put stuff in my pockets sometimes in like PE cause I'm the only one that still has pockets wehn I'm wearing short, except sometimes in that case they end up taking the wrong one when they get it back and I have to go to their class and demand it back

For all you that still don't understand this:

It is illegal to use someone else's material without giving them credit for it. If you try to pass off the video as your own material, then you are doing something illegal. However, if you credit who the original author is, you should not have any problems as they are only under a creative commons license.

actually the reason it is illegal is because youtube is a commercial website. when a user uploads a video to youtube, they agree to give youtube the right to broadcast that video. youtube then provides a website where they make money in advertisement sales. so when you go to youtube to watch a video you are indirectly paying youtube (via ad sales. you are witnessing ads, the advertisers pay youtube for you looking at their ads).

by downloading a video from youtube and watching it privately, you are denying them the money they would make in ad sales. youtube wants you to use their website, because every time you click a link they make money. if you view a video once and save it to your PC and then view it 100 times they lose out on 100x as much money as if you repeatedly went to their website.

don't sweat it, though. this is chump change in the grand scheme of things. how many millions of youtube users? we're probably talking $0.30-$1.00 per website visited in ad sales.

and yes the internet was made for illegality. the anarchist's cookbook, anyone?

Legal/Illegal are are not 'right and wrong' but rather based on laws.

The laws of Canada are not the same as those of the USA... or as the UK, etc. There are not universal laws about copyright, etc. There are 'conventions' agreed to by most countries (at least western democracies) to pass laws that have consistency. However, the devil is in the details of each country's laws on copyright. Things like private use, copying for non-commercial gain, etc, are usually determined by individual countries. Or,if covered, can usually be challenged, successfully or not, through things like Canada's Charter of Rights, the USA's Bill of Rights, etc.

Copyright laws and legalities to do with 'Youtube', Ipods, etc. are a murky area in most countries unless directly mentioned in law.
