So i have this riff i'm stuck with. I can't seem to really complete it and maybe i just need a chord or something to break this block but i thought i would throw it out for some feed back.

Here goes.....

---7--8--5------5-----------------5--5---5---5-----
------------8---5---8--5--7--5----5--5---5---5-----
----------------------------------6--6---6---6-----
----------------------------------7--7---7---7-----
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------

---7--8--5------5-----------------4--4---4---4-----
------------8---5---8--5--7--5----5--5---5---5-----
----------------------------------4--4---4---4-----
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------

Here is a litte recording of it over and over

theory wise i think it's in the A Dorian scale and bounces between an A major and E something or another. I tried throwing in an C minor and an b something but have not found anything that seems right.

sometimes i just feel like I'm musically masturbating and never really getting anywhere.

After you have played the secton with the E major chord (second line), do another of the first line and then try replacing the chord with a C#7 - just a hunch, but give it a go.
