OK, well, I am mainly an acoustic guy, thats pretty much all I play because Im too lazy to hook up an electric and turn it on
So, I was wondering, about electic guitars, what makes a strat a strat? And what makes a Les Paul a Les Paul?
Im not too familiar with the different types of electric guitars

looks dont matter to me. i chose my les paul because it sounded the best. if ur looking to play a rythmy sounding guitar the fender/squire is gr8, les pauls have more of a fuller deeper tone, and not as good rythm pickup. les paul was orignally going to put his name on the sg, but he didnt like it, he designed his own, les paul. i think ull find with les paul's ull get less static from it, due to the even amount of pickups. ther a gr8 guitar, but its all personall preferance, go 2 the store and play every guitar ther lol. when ur fingers bleed, or they kick u outta the store b/c they need to close, u only need to go 1 more time lol.

Don't forget that Gibson and Fender aren't the only worthy brands. Try plenty of other guitars if you're looking for an electric.

I suggest looking into Ibanez, fine sir. Quality instruments with prices that won't make the sidewalk your new home.

Oh yeah right LP aha.
What did I leave out...
Paul Reed Smith, Martin, Nova, Yamaha, Seagull, Squire, Epiphone, Kramer, lots of others.

Though some, like Yamaha, aren't just guitar manufacturers. But still. some them I listed at 2008-05-31 15:40:31 I didn't even play a whole lot of their models. I just like the way they sound & look.

Yerr, they're the best questions to ask really. The first post doesn't even tell us whether he's actually getting an electric guitar or not though...

There's so much to different types of electric guitar, it's hard to just list qualities of each type so when the time comes for you to buy then you should make a point to try a lot of guitars, and maybe look into guitars you already like the sound of.
