im certainly not denying the fact that drugs did influence music, but from my perspective, i know that when im under an influence my creativity and ability go down the drain

when I'm high(I don't drink anymore) my ability manages to stay pretty close to the same if not getting smoother because of the slightly slower movements, but creativity is crap.

hmm, let me cast my mind back... weed, LSD, ecstasy, cocaine, lamazapam, Dihydrocodeine, paracetamol, coffee, 2CB (kinda like Mescalin), mushrooms, MDMA, speed, isolated THC (the chemical that gets you high in weed), Ritalin, Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis caapi), gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, alcohol, Lily-of-the-Nile (Agapanthus) mixed with wine, tobacco, chocolate, Zyban, opium, Ketamine (would not recommend) im sure there are plenty of others but you get the idea. I have and will never touch heroin or crack. many of those listed i only tried once and would not play with again. i have had both good and bad experiences with drugs and i personally believe that anyone with no history of mental illness in their family should try some form of hallucinogenic at least once in their life as it will (if used correctly) deepen your understanding of your own mind.

i would also like to state that the reason i tried many of these drugs was as a means of escape from a reality which was not and in many ways is still not to my liking. whilst studying art and music i discovered that there is really no need to sidestep reality with drugs when you can confront and comment on it with creativity which is ultimately more rewarding (no 12 step program can teach you that)
so judge me if you like, having done these drugs doesn't make me cool, i am actually constantly surprised that i managed to make anything of my life after the abuse i committed against my body and mind.

I don't do drugs, I don't smoke and I don't drink...did I mention I was in a Christian band! I've taken sips of some stuff that my bro-in-law was cooking with like tequila and port wine (yuk!). and I did try a muslide from applebees (this was good though!) and a chocolate martini (also yuk!) from outback steakhouse. Those have a little alcohol in them, but I have only had them once. I have never and will never have beer though. I don't even want to taste it. I might as well drink urine, because thats what it smells and looks like.

I can't believe you just suggested that everyone try some sort of hallucinogen! thats not cool! When I had gallblader surgery I was on an anesthetic and when I woke up i was in pain so they gave me morphine and I had a vicodin before surgery. I was flipping out! I thought I had spiders crawling on my face and I was obsessed with time. I asked everyone in the recovery room what time it was. The whole room was spinning. If you don't experience this stuff then what are you missing out on really? Just spin around really fast and you get the same effect, but without spiders you can't get off of your face!

@ bender

morphine is not a hallucinogen it is an Opium derivative chances are you were suffering from the after effects of the anesthetic. you must of misread i did not say that everyone should try hallucinogens i merely stated that those without a history of mental illness in their family who feel they could benefit from a different perspective on reality might in the right situation learn something about themselves and the world around them with the help of a hallucinogenic substance. i didn't say you should force-feed LSD to toddlers. as for comparing a complex mind altering drug to spinning around really fast this is laughable and shows me that you have little to no knowledge of the subject. if you do some research into the early clinical trials of drugs such as LSD you will see that many people benefited greatly from supervised use and overcame childhood traumas, phobias and other mental difficulties. it is fairly clear to me that you haven't done your homework and as a result are blindly repeating cliched "facts" that were forced upon you as a child.

I am extremly glad to be ignorant on this subject. I have no desire to do any 'research' on it either. But there are young people here and you should be more responsible with your words. Like this quote from you:
"and i personally believe that anyone with no history of mental illness in their family should try some form of hallucinogenic at least once in their life"

I don't think I misread this at all.

@harley of doom and fender_bender

agree to disagree? lol

Guys, I haven't ever tried anything outside of pot, and I can honestly say that I have no desire to. I don't feel that if you do all kinds of drugs that you are a bad person or whatnot, I feel that if you do use drugs, you should use them 'responsibly'(Kind of an oxymoron, but you get the point). For example if you are going to do hallucinogens, have somebody make sure you don't nuts and do something stupid.
I've smoked Marijuana about 4 times in my life. I've only not enjoyed 1 of the times because it made me nauseous later. the other 3 I was perfectly content just being able to wind down from a stressful semester of school and hangout with friends and just relax with no worries about anything but reaching for more chips.
And Vicodin isn't a fun thing to use to feel good. I had to use them this last week when I was dealing with my wisdom teeth, and wow, they don't make me feel good, just run down, tired, and very very very 'slow'. i went through 38 vicodin in 7 days, and there's only been a few times where I was glad to not feel much of anything(IE eating!).
I do believe however, that drugs are not for everyone. There are some people I know and are very close friends with that don't use drugs at all, or drink alcohol(I don't drink anymore btw).
If drugs are against what you believe, that's fine, but if not, you shouldn't be closed minded on the subject, but you shouldn't be too open either.

And as far as hallucinogens go, I would try them, but the mind can be a very dark scary place... and I think I would scare the crap out of myself.

@ bender sorry i inflamed your christian self-righteousness but you must understand that differences in opinion are what makes the world go round. i was merely being honest about my own experiences

I'm sorry to be all up in your face, but other people may not be as strong as you were. They may not be 'able' to stop once they start. What seems like a harmless sample could very well lead to disaster. I look at your long list of stuff you tried. You had to start somewhere. Do you really want to send someone else down the same path? Someone who may not handle it the same way? A little sample of something sucked you in, but you were able to find a way out in the end. When you look back you see it as abuse. I just wonder why you would want somebody else to go through 'the abuse'.

Anyway...we both made our points and don't really need to keep this going. I will let you have the last word though. I'll take my 'christian self righteousness' away from the drug thread. ;)
