What amp/s do you think are very underrated?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think the Line 6 Spider III series amps are very underrated. I personally love my amp and the sound it gives me.

Marshall MG amps seem to be underrated too. Some people like 'em and some despise them.

What about you guys?

I just traded my Marshall MG50GFX. I didn't like that amp from the beginning. It was the first amp I bought and I just went strait for the Marshall, but after I played for a while I realized that it wasn't that good of an amp. Lessons learned I guess.

I have never played the line 6 so I don't know anything about them.

Peavey amps seem to have gone out of style since the late 80s. I think they have better distortion than most Marshals.Peavey combo ams are also have good lows or bass.

Nah, I don't think the Spiders and the MGs are underated. They get the critism they deserve most of the time, it's just that some people jump on the bandwagon without hearing them and forming their own opinion on them. I'm guessing there opinion would probably be that they're bad amps though if they did anyway...

I've never tried and MG, I just seen a lot of reviews and comments saying that they are crap amps. But I can not judge because I haven't play one. I like Peavey amps, they are really good. Don't remember what I played in the store but I did like it.

I almost bought a marshall MG half stack... Then I played it, thank god, and decided it wasn't worth any amount of money to me. I decided to go all out and get a tube amp. I did a ton of research, I narrowed it down to 3 amps, the kerry king signature marshall, the krank krankenstein, and the peavey 6505+....

The peavey, in my opinion, sounded better, and had more versatility than the others. It also was about $1000 cheaper, so I'd say peavey's are fairly underrated.

I got a Marshall MG about a year ago, I needed some random cheap thing because my old Randall Blew out and repairing it would be way more then I have. I really liked the sound of it's clean. The distortion is crap though. :/ And thus I put in A MXR pedal (the only pedal that has distortion that I like, that I know of) and it had an okay sound, but I really love the cleans. Also, it sounds like crap unless you max out the reverb, and that contour... Ugh...

Yes I've heard the clean is the only good on the MG and that if you want a good distortion, you need pedals.

I'd say they are. Mainly the Spider series amps.
Personally;
I love my Spider III 30, the Insane mode has pretty sweet distortion, plus I can tweak it to how I like it and I think it sounds good for the kind of music that I play.

The Metal channel, I will be honest it effin sucks. The dist. on the Metal channel is very weak.

The Crunch setting isnot TOO bad though overloading it with distortion and gain will get a very noticeable "Sssshhhh" noise, but I play mine with the Distortion at not even half up, I just like a bit of it so I can get a sorta crunch sound.

The clean channel I absolutely love though, It sounds great with loaded reverb on it, and I personally thing the clean channel is great, all-in-all.

Adding the Acoustic sim effect on my RP70 makes it sound very nice too, or selecting the Neck and Middle pickups on my Godin. That gives a nice sound as well.

My amp has 6 built in effects: Chorus/Flange, Phaser, Tremolo on one knob, then There is Sweep Echo, Tape Echo, and Reverb. It is actually seven but with the Chorus/Flange it depends on where the knob is.

The effects though, can be a little bit... too noticeable, like you can kinda notice that more than the guitar behind it, so that's why you try to get the knob in a good position so you can have a bit of both.

The tape echo though, is sadly not a delay, which I'd hoped for because I do like using delay effects to give my work a bit more kick. The sweep echo is pretty cool, when you are playing it has, well obviously, a sweeping sounding echo. It can sound pretty cool with tremolo and/or reverb.

That's my opinion on the amp. I like it and am happy with most of it. 7 out of 10 for me. And yes I know this is long & you probably won't read it, but I just thought I'd state my opinion.

I really dislike all of the effects and the clean channel. It's good for high gain music at low volume... but crank it and it'll sound awful. Even at low volumes though, it's still thin sounding.

line 6 is great... price is great for what you get. the spider, to me, is a lot more sensable than the valve they have

Are you kidding? It's not a great price for what you get, at least they weren't when they came about. They were *well* overpriced and there probably still is a lot better in the price range even if they have dropped.

There are some good Line 6 amps though.

I'm all about the tubes. I played thru a tube amp for about a year now it's gone (tear running down my cheek) not nothing sounds the same and this is why I'm apmless.

But some one said something about Peavey Amps...I remember they were considered junk back in the 90's but I'm hearing pretty good things about the Valveking's and at $400 that sounds good to me.

I got to find one to play!!!!!!

I got my Spider III 30 for like, 200 dollars brand new. I'd say that is a great deal for me. I never use the effects hardly. Sometimes with clean I will. But don't forget, your guitar aso affects how nice your amp sounds. I love my Godin, I think it is the best guitar I have ever played (aside from the Godin I played with EMG's in it... that was amazing)and you know what I played the EMG on?... A line 6 spider III 30. It sounded amazing. But we all have our own personal preference. I like My L6SIII and that's all that matters.

I have a Line 6 Spider III like GuitarBoy and it's a good amp all-around. It's not a tube amp so it doesn't have that sound, but it's still a good sounding amp. I can get good volume out of mine, which is 150 Watts, and it is very versatile-which is it's best feature, you can switch from all kinds of tones instantly. I like the "blues" settings the best since they give a fairly "bassy" feel (I think one of them is supposed to be modeled after the Bassman).

Finally someone who agrees that Spiders are not that bad!
I have played the 150 in the store, it is like 684981 times better than the 30 watt, way more effects, way more settings, and of course, more power! I liked the sound of it, If I had a thousand bucks I would buy it probably.

Wow, that is freakin' cheap for 150 watt amp that has all that stuff... Mine was friggin 200 or 250 and it's only got the 6/7 effects, 4 settings and 30 watts... You lucky bastard lol

I think I am going to sell mine though. Not sure, I just want a new sound (Cab, Head, and a Pedal)

Well thanks to DOZ I am now looking at perhaps the right amp for me, the Roland 60. Now I am thinking about the roland 30. Its cheaper, but is it loud enough to play at home. What I mean is, does the tone and overall sound start to suck at higher volumes?

I am guessing the "60" and "30" are referring to the wattage of the amp.
30 Watts is plenty for playing at home. 10 Watts is plenty actually.

Some amps suck at higher volumes (gives the Spider III a dirty look) but they do sound kinda good at a lower volume.

About the sound of your amp, I don't know. Doz help SouthernGuy please :P

My amp sounds better the higher you crank it. It is actually to loud to get the best sounds out of it. I would have some angry neighbors...lol

Southern guy: if you need it for band practice and maybe some gigs - get the 60 watt Roland Cube. However, the 30 watt is more than enough volume to play at home - so it depends on what you really need this amp for. Are you going to be playing with a band?

And yeah, GB: They do sound alright at low volumes, the Spider amps... but that's about it in my opinion. And LP: same here with my JCM 900... I don't even play that in my home (just at gigs and rehearsals) because I wouldn't be able to push it far enough at all.

Fender G-Dec, they're always dissed for sounding so electronic and hoolow but for 500$ you get 50 built in effects and it has midi capability 2 inputs and it's a 50W amp

50 built in effects... I can't imagine they sound any good. Plus, I'd rather get something for that price that doesn't have a rep for being electronic and hollow.

As I said, I guess it is a matter of personal preference.
It always seems like Multi Effects pedals as well, have crappy sounding effects sometimes. Like sometimes you are better off getting a stomp box.

I've played the spider, and it sounded perfectly fine to me. I think people just expect too much.

But, then again, maybe I (and I emphasize this) just don't see the problem.

The problem is that for what it is it's overpriced. It's good at low volumes, making it a decent home practice amp. Crank it and it'll sound awful... and it's generally thin and empty sounding anyway.

well i own a fender twin amp. it is a 100w tube amp. it was the same price used as a line6 valve spider. I knew that i would enjoy the valve spider more because it has all those presets built in so you can change your sound to anything you want with the push of a button. it has the same kinda of pre-amp and power tubes as the fender and others. i let the guys in the store talk me into the fender. maybe it was better to get the fender but i kinda regret not getting the line6. i dont see anything wrong with the line 6 valve series. i mean its a tube amp that sounds just as good as other tube amps and it has alot of built in effects so you dont have to invest alot more money on pedals. but then again i look vintage and retro using a fender twin so at least i look like i know what i am doing.

Oooh, the Spider Valve hasn't got as a bad a rep as the other Spiders, but I haven't had the chance to play one. But yeah, I can't imagine the effects sound brilliant, the amp, however, will probably generally sound alright.

Yeah it is overpriced because There was like a 150W Line 6 Spider with LOADS of other stuff and it was like $899.99 CDN when I saw it last.
But I guess for a practice amp (and me not being a hugely experienced guitarist) that isn't too bad, and the price isn't bad I guess. But I thank Doz very much for telling me about the Epiphone Valve Junior Head cause I came outta there with the matching cab as well. Much better haha

Hmmm, I don't even like the cleans on it to be honest. I had a dream last night where I accidentally took my Spider to a gig, it was horrible. :D
