The Pink Panther
In one of my earlier lessons, "Voicing Melodies with Chords" (or something to that effect), I talked about playing melody lines using nothing but block chords. As an example, I went and took one of my favorite grooves, The Pink Panther Theme Song, and composed a version using almost entirely chords. There are some pretty impressive professional compositions on youtube that do the same thing, so I'd also recommend having a look. Mine doesn't quite compare, but if you want a nifty little lick that will get a few grins, give this a shot:
Make sure you give it a nice swing-feel!
NOTE: The dead-notes in phrase 1 are achieved by muting the strings with your fret-hand and then slapping the guitar strings with your picking-hand (slapping in between the bridge and neck that is).
